Early cancellation of a mobile phone contract

My mobile phone contract still has a couple of months to run but I would like to cancel it now. You are often able to renew an existing phone contract early - would I be able to renew to a new contract and then cancel it using the 21 day cooling period?

Most networks will allow you to upgrade up to 3 months early. BUT you won't get as good an offer on a new contract as you would if you were out of the existing contract..

I think the OP means he wants to tell the network he wants to renew in month 16 (if 18 months) and then cancel immediately, thus ending the original contract after 16 months.

I imagine this would only undo the decision to renew and reinstate the original contract.

Yes I've been made redundant and want to switch to a pay as you go, as soon as I can. I seem to remember reading on a money saving article some time ago that if you can renew your contract early, the contract would start from the renewal date. Then you could cancel within the 21 days. I wanted to have this confirmed -I clearly can't ask in phone shop! Thanks

    Sorry, I misread...

You don't need to renew, just tell them you need to cancel and they'll send you a bill to terminate which will be the remaining months up front...
