Hi i am looking for free online texting with no catches please.

I've exhausted my two o2.co.uk accounts, and don't have another mobile number to register again with.

Cbfsms is annoying me cos i've been trying for hours but everytime it's busy and i need to wait 10 mins, and then seem to miss the slot!!

I did a google but they all seem to have a catch - i/e charging the recipient a fortune to receive, or harvesting mobile numbers for spam etc etc.

There must be more than the above 2 sites that are safe?!

(ps i don't know if this was the best section to post in?)

You can find reviews of over 200 worldwide, including quite a few for UK, at http://www.textmefree.com/

but read the terms and conditions carefully, for the reasons you mentioned (or adverts)

personally, I wouldn't bother, and I'd suggest subscribing to Fishtext, which costs from a penny or two per message

Ah thanks, my googling did uncover the site you linked to and they seem to have their own favourite http://textmefree.fonetastic.com/sms/v1/ - wonder if it's any good?

I'm nervous of the ones that want MY number aswell, i know o2 does but i trust them lol.

Never heard of fishtext...are they the same people as cbfsms?

Yes, but because it's paid, albeit very cheap, you don't get lumbered with the queueing issues - a handful of test messages to myself arrived within a few seconds

Oh i just looked and it seems the minimum topup is £5 - defeats my mission at the mo cos if i had a fiver i'd top my phone up! Looks good though and still works out loads cheaper than usual.

    Roll on payday  (tomorrow!)

Fishtext offers you 20p free trial credit.

There are similar services, some also with trial credit, such as smsbug and Vyke, but I think these are only used via data from your phone, and the downloads to your phone would cost a few (30?) pence each, not much help if the credit is low. There are some other threads here about text services, which you'd find with a search for these names

Even cheaper idea: if your sent from number doesn't matter, see if you can get a friend there to apply for and send you a free O2 Ireland SIM. They have 250 free online messages per month to anywhere. You might have to brief people not to reply to your Irish number though.

Oooh thank you!! :T:T I signed up and got the free credit so that's 10 free texts :D :money:

The others are an option cos i still have some free data left.

I don't know anyone in Ireland but thanks for the useful info on that too!
