Why is your OH so reluctant to discuss money? Was he reluctant to discuss it, say when you were buying the flat:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

thanks for such good advice:j
The a&l Acc has a low o/d rate of 5.9% (thu shall not use) Cheap best credit interest and a 10% regular saver that you can set up standing order between £25 and £250 per month for 1 year for your tax, online banking is ok but not fab. and they will move all DD for you if you request it when you get your pack. its a good choice.Thought I saw the light at the end of the tunnel....Then got hit by a train! :A

there's a long and complicated relationship with money in this relationship, stemming from his having to take care of all the big bills when i wasn't working that regularly and now feeling a bit relieved but presured because i make more money than him. when we were buying the flat i'm afraid i did all the negotiations and all the paperwork, paid all the fees and got him to sign papers when he came home from a (very) long day at work. I was the one on the phone to the solicitors daily and with the mortgage brokers, so i suppose he didn't really have to discuss anything.
i think i'm being unfair to him though, it's not that he's a skinflint or that he's miserly or selfish in any way. i think he just doesn't want to be hassled by the discussion and would prefer i just go to him and say "give me x amount of money for so-and-so".
i will however open and account for the bills, move my direct debits (you say not to have the bank move them?), and get him to contribute more for insurances and other flat stuff. and try to sort out my ccards from my own current account.:cool:MFW Newbie - #17. (#116 in 2019)

Hello melabarrie,
OH and I decided to open a "spending" account (for groceries / petrol / pressies / clothes etc) a while back so that one account could just be for the bills (we'd had a problem where a cheque we'd written didn't get cashed for ages - so we forgot about it and our OD went over the limit  ). What we did though was leave the account that was already set up with all the DD's and then get my wage put into the other account (we split things 50:50) and his gets paid into the account and covers all the DD (includes insurance etc).
What I'm tring to say is that if you open up a new account - get your pay put into it and then create your own DD or SO (of £650 or whatever) to pay into your current current account - that way none of the DDs etc need moving.
Have fun sorting it all out0 -

Thats ok however on the A=L Acc they will get more interest on the money while it is waiting to pay the bills gaining them a couple of quid a month depending on the amount as I doubt there current bank account has such a good rate.Thought I saw the light at the end of the tunnel....Then got hit by a train! :A

melabarrie,
is there anything you could do work wise between acting jobs? a guy on spendaholics took an evening job so he could still get to auditions during the day. i know its not an issue at the moment but something to bring in enough to cover the basics such as the mortgage would mean you get out this create debt + catch up cycle.0 -

hi there
i do get jobs in between, usually telephone jobs. i've only had the mortgage since june last year, but i used to cover my half of bills like rent and loans before. sometimes the tax bill just would come after having used my savings for living, or we'd have a big expense like a large gas bill or repair work on the boiler, so things would just keep cropping up. i've had other things come up like a missed council tax payment (through a mix-up at the bank) and they don't give you a chance to recover, they just charge you the full bill when you've missed, so i've had to use savings for that as well.
but i don't ever sit at home and do nothing. i always try to get work. i just haven't been able to catchup yet
thanks for the question:oMFW Newbie - #17. (#116 in 2019)
