Want to reclaim Bank Charges but don't know sort code/account details

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help.

A few years ago (though less than six) I incurred some bank charges from HSBC on an account which has since been closed.

I wish to try and recover these charges but I hve a problem: I don't know what my old account number and sort code were and, given that I don't know the exact dates/details, I can't really write and complain.

I have faxed my local branch asking for the account details so that I can make a DPA request for the charges information from their Head Office, but if they refuse to tell me the sort code and account number, can I send a DPA request off anyway giving my name, address, date of birth etc so that they can find the details?

Thanks for all your help
Rich

AFAIK under the DPA, they cant refuse to tell you what the account no and sort code was. If they do Id refer it to the Information Commissioner, its your info, your entitled to it -i would have thought anyway
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Thanks Lynzpower. I will wait to see if the bank respond tomorrow and if they don't I'll send the DPA request off with my details on but without the s.c. and a/c. My postal address hasn't changed so they should be able to find it.

    Thanks again

You could just phone them and say that you had a small fire and your records were destroyed - the insurance company need details of payments made from the account some time ago, I have my name and postcode - would you be able to give me the account number etc...?

That might be a better approach than going in sounding off about the DPA etc... and would probably get results quicker.
