Dentists for student

Do you have to pay to go to the dentist? I haven't been to one in 2 years, since i started uni, i feel i should go see one.

Best thing to do is to get HC1 form for your doctors or via http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/HealthCosts/1558.aspx

I was able to get help with NHS costs list prescriptions, dental and opticians during my time at Uni.

Does your university have a dental school?

Make friends with one of the students!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

You cannot get one for university student (as it only goes upto 18) but you can get money off depending on income.

Yup, definitely send off an HC1 form! I dd just before uni and get free eye tests, free dentist check-ups, free prescriptions, an optical voucher towards the cost of glasses etc... Total life saver! Even if you don't get full help, you may well qualify for partial help :)

i've checked and basically i'm not pregnant and i'm over 18 (20), so i guess that means i'm entitled to nothing? all it is is that i am in full time education, i get no income support or EMA or grant from the SLC or my university as my parents earn 50k combined.

would i still be entitled to partial help even if i get no support from the government currently?

also i go to uni in wales (Cardiff), where prescriptions are free... is dental care free too?
  • I've visited the dental hospital attached to my uni - I got a filling and all my wisdom teeth removed and I didn't have to pay a penny as several dental students sat in and watched!!!

Worth checking out your local one - if there is one.

No - but Cardiff does have a training dental hospital.

    Chat up a student!

I'm 19, at uni, no benefits etc and get full help - it is based on your income from work/savings etc, not on your parents' income, so you may well qualify :)
