It's not routinely stocked, no, they are a veterinary surgery, not a pet shop!
If you wanted to buy it from your vet, they can certainly order it in and supply it to you as long as you're prepared to buy the full case! It might not be as cheap as you can buy from a large pet store or supermarket of course as they don't have the benefit of bulk discounts on individual orders, but as another poster commented on, it's often more convenient if you are visiting your vet monthly to pick up meds etc anyway.
Some people seem to be under the impression that vets only stock and sell one brand of pet food. This is not the case at all!
The reason you see Hill's diets in many surgeries is because they were, at one time, the only suppliers of a wide range of prescription veterinary foods. Waltham Pet Foods later supplied a limited range under the Pedigree label but now produce an increasingly wide range of veterinary diets under the Royal Canin brand. Yet for some reason people are under the impression vets only sell/recommend Hill's food!
At my old practice we had numerous clients buying large sacks of dry food and bulk cases of wet food from many different brands. If we could get it from our suppliers then we would sell it. I'm sure most practices would do the same if you asked!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Sadly Vets aren't taught nutrition and don't always know what they are talking about. I think on small animal nutrition I heard they spend 4 hours on! crazy. I would think speak to pet shops not vets about food. Oh and guess who teaches them nutrition HILLS greaaaat! cereals, unspecified fats, maize, corn - profit profit profitHelp me to help you :santa2:0
