Refurbished TV

Hi all,

I'm looking for a new tv, and I've seen a refurbished one on the currys website. It's a Hitachi, which is a brand I trust, and comes with a 12 month warranty. Are refurbished ones ok or should I avoid?
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I do not know Curries policy on this, but the Fuji refurbed cameras are often just returns, so not strictly second hand used, maybe Currys do the same?

  • You might never know the original source of the TV.

It could be ex-display or as Farway says, a customer return. I think once it's been removed from the original packaging, it cannot then be sold as new, hence the refurb tag.

In the end you're still getting 12 months warranty, as per a normal TV.

It may well be a brand that you trust, however Hitachi do not make their own TV's any more, they are just re-badged items from other makers.

Is it the small screen one? If so, I advise you to read my post on them before buying: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=25673793&postcount=301

Cheers guys. Dad works at Currys for the returns bit, so he'd probably have warned me off it since it's so bad. I'll keep saving for a few more months for a better one then.

Hi, I use a website for tv's... these are products that have been returned and then are now back for sale. 12 months warrenty. Probably cheaper than curries!

Have you tried freecycle / freegle? Loads of great TVs there for free. And you get to keep them out of landfill at the same time - bonus!
Unlikely to get a flat screen from there, but when most people put a TV in the corner, is a flat screen really necessary?

You'll be able to get a new tv on the internet for less than a currys refurb.

Cdiscount.co.uk are doing 20% off everything until 6pm tonight as a starter, plus quidco on top.

I replaced a 32" CRT with a 50" plasma, both in the corner, and GAINED at least a square metre of floor space, which is quite a lot considering the room is only about 20 square metres in total.
