  • I feel that as an EBay buyer I would find your sales coming over as arrogant and I wouldn't bid on anything you had to sell. A lot of sellers seem to think that it all ends when they send the item, well it doesn't; it ends when I receive it in good condition - and it is solely up to the seller to get it to me. You choose the method of sending - I choose whether or not I am prepared to pay for it. If not I wait for another auction to come up that suits ME - Not YOU.

I personally will only pay with Paypal or if it is a big item Cash on Collection, thre are no options and no other choices, if the seller doesn't like it then I look for another auction that suits me.

Always remember that you need buyers - buyers have a choice of sellers.

    I have a 100% score - Do you???

Sorry if you felt i was having a go with the above post but it seems you have little understanding of what you can and can't do with Ebay and the fact that Ebay have terms and regulations that over ride anything you put in the auction yourself.
Hintza has said exactly what you need to do. You can't make anyone pay for an auction let alone pay within 5 days if they don't want to. Look at this as being just one of the possible outcomes of Ebay and factor the possiblility of a non payer and your needs for money so quickly into your over all possible required outcome. This is also why i suggested maybe a different place to sell, maybe someplace that is more suitable to your needs and is not restricted to Ebay terms.
There is no point in stressing about something you can't change and if you continually email the buyer it will look unprofessional and desperate. Send them an email on the 7th day as Hintza says and then report it. It is all you can do really.

Just a thought to the OP. YOu have a term in your auction that implies either pay in 5 days 'or else' you don't particularly like the advice that has already been given so I ask you a very basic question. What is your 'or else'? You put that implied threat in your terms and conditions so you must know what you intended to do if they did not pay within your time frame, so whatever your 'or else' was going to be, then do it if you feel strongly enough.

If you don't know what you intended to do if they did not pay, then the term is meaningless and you will probably save yourself a lot of hassle, and get more bidders, by removing it all together.

Yes i do have 100%. And maybe before you call people arrogant you might like to read what you actually write! (because if you ask me that attitude IS arrogant!)

For your interest I always e-mail the sellers to congratulate them on their purchase and to offer help in any way that I can, as soon as the auction has ended. I also thanks them for payment when it arrives, and advise them when the item has been sent and what day they can expect postage. That is not arrogant and to me that is how I would like people to deal with me. (And as I deal with customers and supplier every day then I like to think I know how to handle both, (although no-one is perfect of course.)

The guy in question who has bought this item has actually e-mailed me today, thanking me for my patience and understanding, also for the help that I have offered him. (As he has sent the cash in a normal 1st class delivery.)

Kaminari, Yes it did feel like you were having a go, but all is forgiven ;) I know Ebay has Rules and Regs in place, but from what I have seen and read I can ask for payment in 5 days, but EBay itself will not do anything until the 7th day, which is fine by me....... I was just worried I was actually breaking the rules. I only added that statement to this one particular item as it had a value to it. I will probably not use it again, as it has been pointed out, it might scare the buyers, (which I don't want to do,) and also EBay can't do anything until 7 days anyway.)

Thank you to everyone that has offered advice, I will let you all know the outcome now that the NPB is in place.
    Waddle you do eh?
  • I can afford to be arrogant, I don't care. I don't bid on auctions that break the rules. Remember there are bad sellers too.........

Yes there are bad sellers. But, asking for payment in 5 days, (from what I can see,) breaks no rules. Yes you can't get EBay to help you until 7 days have passed, but asking for payment in 5 days isn't a problem.

Just to update everyone else, the cash arrived in the post this morning and I have sent the item out SD not 10 mins ago, which I have 'mailed him to let him know. So the buyer will have his parcel before 12 tomorrow......... good customer service???? I think so.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice.
