  • OK so I went in to town today and got my Jewellery valued at 3 different companies and received a price of £200, £255 and £360..

The £360 was tempting but I decided to use a postal gold service as they say I don't have to accept the offer and will send the gold back to me for free if I don't like their valuation.. I did a google search for postal companies and chose ounces2pounds as they had loads of TV clips on their website and seemed more kosher than the rest.. I shall keep you posted on the price I get...
  • I sent some scrap gold (23g) to Money 4 Gold and was offered £32. I rejected the offer and then received a call increasing their offer to £60. Again I said no and eventually had gold return.

After looking through this forum I sent the same gold yesterday to Hatton Garden Metals. Today have received e-mail and payment into my bank account for £165.43. Quite a difference and my only cost £5.40 for Special Delivery.

I let you be the Judge and Jury on this case outcome!
  • OK, so has anyone actually EVER received their gold back from Money4Gold?? They've had mine for weeks now. Finally got a reply to my email stating my return had been processed on 7th Oct (3 weeks after I sent the cheque back) - stating it then takes 15 days. Its now been another 22 days since then.... Sent an official letter of complaint suggested by Consumer Direct but still nothing....... Got offered £42 for it when it should be worth more like £150. PLEASE no-one else use them!

BEWARE of HGM, I sent off 64 grams of 9ct gold, with a couple of small stones so worst case scenario I expected to get paid for around 50 grams of gold. They in fact only paid for 31 grams!! Thats less than half the gold I sent in. I've emailed them asking for an explanation, but haven't received a response yet, and quite frankly I don't really expect to.

So I feel as if I have been ripped off by Hatton Garden Metals. I know that there was no costume jewellery included and only a couple of old rings that my wife couldn't remember if they were just plated or not so we sent them in anyway, but these items did not make up half of the total weight!!

So my advice is be prepared to be very disappointed.

My daughter has three little gold bars - 20 gram each and they are almost pure gold - Swiss Bank stamp on each. what would the best way be of changing them into cash and do you have to pay any taxes on the sale? She does not think it is a good idea to sell it as 'scrap' gold. Is she right?

    Hi all

Firstly can I just say I understand the points of view's in regard to people with low post counts and the comments about spammers.
I may not post regularly but I did/do feel it prudent to warn people about Money4Gold and also to highlight that not every company of this type are the same, having used Hatton Garden and being pleased with the results I also posted my recommendation.
Yes I used the link in the MSE email alert to get to this thread as probably so did many other people who don't post regularly.
    Just a thought!
For some their first post is not a easy task in a well established forum like this, comments and reporting spammers are all well and good, but the written word can be misunderstood.

Anyway in one of my earlier posts I mentioned that we, who have had bad experiences with Money4Gold have been posting comments on another site (Have money4gold stolen your gold) and are still fighting tooth and nail to get our gold returned. 3 out of 16 of us have eventually had our gold returned in the last 2 days. Their is a link on the above site for the BBB if your struggling to get your gold back, fill in the online complaint form as this has proved a little more successful.
The phone number as on the money4gold website is usually engaged or a answering machine, we've tried emails and letters to no avail, money4gold only seem to respond if you threaten with legal action or use the BBB.
    I hope this helps!

I have used cash4mygold.tv and was pleased with the price recieved. They are paying £7.61 per gram at 9ct.

The service was very quick: Requested gold pack and received this next day. Sent the gold items off and received offer next day. Then received the cheque the following day.

I'm thinking of using HGM. Got some old broken necklaces that have been in the bottom of my jewellery box for years. Weighed it all last night and got approx 35g - not a lot I know, but a little sum that would be nice. Anyway I think one of the necklaces may be 18ct gold - I cannot see a stamp as it has lost the clasp which is where I think the stamp usually is.

I'm thinking it might be worth checking with someone local before posting, but as anything is better than nothing wondering whether it's worth my time; what do you peeps suggest?

If I should get it checked before posting can anyone recommend someone in Northern Ireland, preferably Belfast way?

    Thanks

This is nothing but a scam in my eyes, it looks all very trustworthy...a little too trustworthy with a beaming businessman on one advert and a couple of moronic aristocrat wannabe's on the other dashing about and throwing all their gold into a bag that is only insured upto £100??!

£100 is absolutely nothing with the prices of gold, what happens if they claim to have lost it?

What happens if they decide not to send you your cheque until the 10 day cool-off period is virtually spent?

How nice it is of them to take all your gold for you and value it for you out of your sight and basically claim anything, I see nowhere that states that they are regulated by any body which would be usual with any financial service.

I would be very careful with claims to give you top dollar for anything, anything that seems too good to be true usually is, and I ask you this one last time...why would you want to give away one of the only things that pretty much keeps its value over time to get an empty promise that is not worth the cotton it is printed on?

Stick to real pawn shops, at least then you will be able to claim back your valuables in a period of upto 3-6 months and be able to walk away at anytime, something much harder after you have sent your valuable goods to any company that can be set up overnight.

As said I have used two companies one is Hatton garden I have had a pleasant profitable experience with and if I ever do get my gold back from money4gold it will be sent off to Hatton garden.
You could take the piece you believe to be 18ct to someone who can confirm either way if its 18ct or not. Or you could trust who ever it is you send your gold off to that they are honest enough to pay you the current price. The good sites will give you a estimate of the price paid for the weight you have, it always worth checking that against the daily price of gold.

Both Hatton and M4G use special delivery envelopes so your gold is insured up to £500, can't comment on other companies.

I am also not aware of any regulatory bodies Sparhawke and I have checked due to the problems with Money4gold, however you do have some protection within consumer law as with any other transaction of supply of goods or services.

In answer to your question "why would you want to give away one of the only things that pretty much keeps its value over time"
I always kept my broken gold for the rainy day scenario, Following the Farepak collapse we coped but then we have had two years of rainy days, redundancy, a year of unemployment, long term disablement, savings gone, debt mounting and Christmas fast approaching. Rather than adding to debt, the gold I sent to money4gold was to pay for my son's Christmas. As you say a "empty promise is not worth the cotton its printed on" that is the case with M4G but we are still fighting to get our property back.
