Britain has worst quality of life in Europe

British people have the worst quality of life in Europe, according to a report which highlights the long hours, bad weather, low life expectancy and high price of many consumer goods.
"Though British households enjoy the highest income, at £35,730 a year, £10,325 higher than the European average, British families have to contend with a high cost of living, with fuel, food and alcohol all costing more than the European average.
Britain suffers from the lowest number of days holiday per year.
British consumers also pays the highest prices for diesel, food and the country spends below the European average, as a percentage of GDP, on health, and education.
It also has the 4th lowest life expectancy in Europe and workers retire later than most of their European counterparts.
Later this week, despite signs of recovery in the housing market and buoyant retail sales, there is expected to be grim economic news with unemployment predicted to have climbed to above 2.5 million for the first time since 1994."
Still, turned out nice again. Mustn't grumble...:D

yet again, an article critcising our high cost of living seems to also take pleasure in high house prices, will these idiots never see that high house prices=high mortgage payments=lower standards of living!
after all your house may have tripled in price since you bought it, but its not any nicer to live in!!!0 -
You read things like that and you wonder why there's a queue at Calais.
Wouldn't read too much into that report from "expat monthly"Space available for rent0 -
If they think it is bad now wait until the Tory govt are elected with their 80 billion of cuts  Interesting the top 20 includes only European or ex-British colony apart from Japan.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

It isn't bad now.
The report is so hopelessly flawed that a list of European Countries in alphabetical order would be more valid.
The only thing that makes me ashamed to be British is that our press regurgitates this worthless tosh uncritically.0 -

Hmm OH and I were discussing this just yesterday. With good incomes, we still feel we have to budget if we are to save anything at all, which then gets raped again for tax on interest. We are very overtaxed - tax on insurance too !!!!!!!
But I asked him, when he was asaying how bad it is here (and I agree, I just like actually living in England, not how we're used and abused), where is it better? Greece is a great lifestyle, if you can get a good job or set up a business. Getting the good job is the problem, where the average monthly wage is roughly 700 euro's per month, but where basics like coffee and meat are the same price as here. There are so many countries i'd rather live in, just wouldn't be able to get a job if we moved.
But I agree that people who earn average wages get shafted from every direction and it's demoralising - especially when the weather is so carp and housing costs far too high.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
Nice to see us top at something.;):D0
