LCD TV Screen Sizes?

I'm going to replace my old CRT TV with an LCD. My CRT is officially a 32" screen but it only measures 29" diagonally. Is this the same with LCD? Does 40" actually mean 40", or something a bit smaller.

Thanks

That's odd- I thought even in the CRT days - diag measuring should get you the 32"

    I've just measured a 17" and a 26" both LCD - and both bring back 17" and 26" diagonally

With LCD the size stated will be the visible diagonal.

On CRT displays the diagonal advertised is the physical size of the tube but the very edge isn't used for the display as it would be too distorted.
  • yeah in LCD 40" is 40", but in CRT they will count the panel too.

If it's an old 4:3 (non-widescreen), you'll probably want to go up in size, as the same size in widescreen will look smaller.

If yours is a 32", you might want to get a 37".

Its a "32 inch" widescreen CRT, planning to replace it with a 40" LCD

Would love the LED but can't justify the extra cost right now

Just power consumption and size is the difference but too costly.
