They have this thing called a till, and when it sees main course, side dish, desert and wine swiped, it goes "KACHING" and totals it at £10, deducting all other costs.

If one of the items is missing, it can't recognise the offer. quite simple. quite obvious. It is a computer after all, not a human being...

    I don't really see why it's madness.

Our local M&S will put out substitute items when they run out, although they do tell you to get there early incase they do run out...

    Personally I think it's a great offer!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Like any offer it say's 'Subject To Availability'. They have run out of stuff in our local one before so I asked a member of staff if the missing item could be substituted with anything else, she went away to ask the manager and came back with 2 items I could choose from as a substitute. If they had come back and said there wasn't therefore I would be charged for each item individually then I wouldn't have bothered and gone to Tesco for the same offer for £9 instead :)

I think this is down to a matter of intelligence. There's obviously posters here who just post for the sake of it to bump up their postings.

There's too many assistants who don't know how to use discretion. Like asking for id when the person is obviously old enough to buy whatever. Or if the store in question hasn't got enought items in a 'special' then they could use a little bit of nowse.

In these days of recession and retailers have to fight tooth and nail for any business, the customer has to be even more right, or they'll lose that customer.

I'd write to head office and see what they have to say. I'm sure Rose would give you what you want.

but if the clerk does nto ask for ID and it turns out the person was too young then they would get into serious trouble, so they all err on the side of caution for thier own sakes.

They are not allowed to use discretion as its not their shop and the offer clearly states that you will get the DEAL if you have all the items. not individually selected items. Its not a pickn mix at woolies you know
    one of the famous 5:kiss:
  • I put a pinot grigio in my basket a few weeks back cause they advertised it on the internet advert for 2 can dine and it didnt tot up on my bill. I queried it when I realised and they said it was a mistake on the advert. I have also been ID'd which was frustrating as I only had a form of ID they didnt accept on me at the time.

Yes, but sometimes these thickos don't have two brain cells to rub together. This is just one example: Off-licence staff asked two PENSIONERS for proof they were over 18

They also have supervisors who can override the tills.
  • has gone down hill so much in the last few years. better food and deals elsewhere now

  • I went in to my local M&S last night to get the 2 dine for £10 offer.

haha we watched that as well and couldn't believe they served that stuff. Especially the prawn ring where each customer sat in the back of the car could take one prawn and have a dip before it was passed on.

There was something similar to this featured on either Watchdog or That's Life years ago. In that case somebody at a motorway service area ordered the "special breakfast deal" but he said he didn't want the sausage. So they priced it as separate items and he ended up paying a couple of pounds more for the meal.

Clearly the diner was an idiot.
