Irish ancestors research

Eh?
.ie is the TLD for Ireland.
.uk is the TLD for the UK.
Yes, thanks, you are right of course. I was thrilled to find that I managed to trace my grandmother and where she lived. Looked like two of her daughters had not been born in 1911
and there was one I had never heard of. Maybe she died.
There were five daughters all together so it should be very interesting if I can trace them. I had five siblings, 3 boys and two girls but they were never interested in family history.0 -

Do you understand why the Latter Day Saints members do their family history research and why they submit information to FamilySearch which is owned by their church?
No. Will knowing this help with my research?0 -
If you are going to use the FamilySearch website then you really need to know what it's all about.
I only know of the beliefs of the members of the LDS church through my family history research, I have no connections with the church at all.
From what I understand the members can have their ancestors received into the church. To do this they need to do their family history.
The church holds millions of documents on film and fiche ( parish records plus many other types of documents from all over the world) which they use to help them in their family history.
Many are reproduced on FamilySearch, but that is only a tiny proportion of what they have.
Anyone can order the films and fiche for a small charge and you view them at your closest LDS Family History Centre.
Now I have found the members extremely helpful and they don't try and convert you to their beliefs when you use the centres.
Now the members like everyone else hit a brickwall with their research at some point, I am afraid what they do then is guess.
If you see on FamilySearch 'extracted' by a record and it gives details of date and place etc.then you can be pretty sure it is correct although you should always check it yourself.
If you see 'submitted' and there are no details then it is a guess on someones behalf.
So you have an entry with no details ie. parents etc? That means I'm afraid whoever has done that research can't find anything else.
As long as you do understand all of this then carry on using the site but be wary of anything without details.
Sorry this is a long post.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
Thanks. That is really helpful. What exactly are the Pedigree resource files?0
-
This is what FamilySearch says about them.
The Pedigree Resource File is a lineage-linked database of records submitted by individuals through FamilySearch Internet. To respect privacy, information about living people is not displayed online. There are two versions:
Internet Version- Helps you search for records based on names, relationships, events, time periods, and places.
- Displays individual records of people listed in the database. Individual records can be printed.
- Does not provide detailed information about sources, notes, or LDS temple ordinances.
- Gives reference numbers you can use to find the complete record on a compact disc.
- May link you to a submitter's personal web site, where the record may be posted.
- Standardizes names so that spelling variations are displayed together.
- Standardizes high level places to allow searching by country.
- Gives more detailed views of the records, including family groups and pedigrees.
- Provides any notes and sources that were submitted with the records.
- Lets you print charts and reports.
- Lets you copy information to your personal database.
- Is available at most family history centers.
