This is your best start the 1911 census free!

I cannot post a link but the 1911 census can be found at www. census.nationalarchives.ie ;)

I hope the "ie" at the end of the site you mention is not just the north as I would have thought the south had "ei" at the end.
Will go have a look! I am interested in the Cavan area and around Dublin.

I got nowhere for free when I was looking at one time.
My Mum was Irish and really I am only interested in her background. My husbands distant cousin is fanatical about tracing her family and has been here twice from Australia.

    Eh?

.ie is the TLD for Ireland.
.uk is the TLD for the UK.

I believe that a lot of Irish records have been lost for all eternity, but thankfully I haven't had much research required on that side. The great site Rootschat is awash with links and incredibly helpful individuals, I can't recommend it highly enough for assistance with family tree research.

Does anyone have any clues on how to search for my adoptive Father's ancestor Christopher Whelan who was listed in the UK 1861 census as 'born Ireland' and whose son was born in Bilston UK in 1842? I presume they must have come over before the famine......
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • Have you tried www. familysearch.org/eng/default.asp. Not allowed to post lik so close gap after https://www.;)

Found a relative on the pedigree resource file which gave a father's name but nothing else. I am not sure what this file is.
  • Ceewash If you have found the pedigree resource file on FamilySearch it means a member of the Latter Day Saints church has submitted the information.
Do you understand why the Latter Day Saints members do their family history research and why they submit information to FamilySearch which is owned by their church?
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.
  • another vote for Rootschat.com - they are really helpful
