They couldn't organise a proverbial brewery party, the left hand is unfamiliar with the right appendage and any other adage that describes general incompetence from the get go!!!

Not really fair to slate a company and not say what they've done0

They dug up the lawn and pavement outside my house, left it for 2 weeks with limited access (thankfully I use the back for all but deliveries) and after not being able to do the work required, as they kept putting a card through the day before they have then cut off my gas over the weekend!
Thanks for the link psst - will have a look at the linkMortgage Free since January 2018!0 -

Finally sorted and connected back on, it took them two hours this morning but finally have gas, just have to wait for another team to come and fill in the hole now. I'm still a little grrrr...that I had to take 1/2 day holiday to get it sorted and because of the upset so am going to pursue them for complaint...Mortgage Free since January 2018!0

You want to make a complaint... What do you hope to achieve by doing so? Do you expect money? An apology??0 -

Its easy to assume that digging holes and filling them in is just that.
In fact digging holes and filling them in has become rather an art.
It is naturally assumed that you just shovel all the dirt back in,pat it down and scrape some tarmac over the top.
Wrong.
First of all to dig,on planned work you have to serve notice to the local authority and submit an opening notice.
In some areas they will "rent" that bit of road to you for a set time. If you dont complete site works in x days, you could get fined.
Dig hole...well even before you dig,do site survey, carry out underground plant location survey to avoid other pipes, cables, ducts and utilities.
Dig hole
do work
Hole now has to be infilled to the correct spec using correct materials. Soil/materials which have been dug out have to be removed from site. Infill with layers of specified material, finish off to spec as per local authority requirement.
Oh yes..its a science in itself.
It appears that Skanska made efforts to gain access...no access so card left. Understandable, people at work n all that. NG operate a 24/7 service. Ideally OP could have phoned them to action a visit to check/reconnect/assess requirements.0 -
I did phone them and was told that, despite the card, they didn't need access to the property and would be able to complete works without someone here. I also called to let them know that I couldn't be here, I know that they have a right to do the work but I'm just annoyed that I made attempts to offer an alternative and was not offered this until after they had cut off the gas and I was effectively forced to stay home or live without gas.
I have to say, the backfilling work they have done at the neighbours is a really professional job and don't have any qualms about them putting it back - in fact it'll probably look better than it did beforeMortgage Free since January 2018!0
