    Seems?

You know things aren't always what they seem.

I can not believe that a bedroom is permitted with no windows.

Well I don't know how to tell, I just meant its a big operation so maybe they would have had to follow the regulations, hmm i also wouldn't know who to report it to.

None of the other rooms have windows actually, the ground floor one has a larger bit of opaque glass, but yah, its pretty annoying, only 1 month contract notice needs to be given though at any time, it's just in the perfect location for work so I have to weigh up the options

It's a prestige development and quite new. Building regs people will have crawled all over the plans and build, so it will be kosher. Odd, but kosher.

I am shocked like others on here that this development was ever allowed permission, as I always thought windows would be needed in more areas then where you are living!! Are you cooking with gas in any shape or form, ie hob or oven?!!

I would firstly getting onto the management company, and then if it does not bring results within days and better air quality, I would contact your local planning office. Explain the situation and if possible ask them, or to put you in touch with whoever is relevant in this situation, possibly environmental, to come out and inspect the place, and see if any rules are being broken.

I would also advise looking for elsewhere, as to live in such an enclosed space without natural light and air can not be good for your health or safety. Good luck OP, and keep us informed of what happens.

Email building control at your local council

    Dear sir
Is it legal to have a bedroom with no window?
And if so what air ventilation is required?
    Thanks

"also exceptional penthouses that exhaust class" I think their ad would have scared me off even before looking at the windowless bedrooms :D
  • You really should have a chat with building control on a 'theoretical' basis. You won't even have to say where you are but it will give you an answer to the most pressing question here. I've never heard of anything like this.

My freind once rented a flat which had only a small strip window high up on the wall in the bedroom, the living room had a normal window though.

Being in the bedroom was like being in a cell, made me feel trapped every time i was in there.

DH says you dont have to actually have a window as such, but there must be a fire escape for bedrooms on the 3rd floor.
