This is probably not the right place to post but here goes anyway.

I live in a 3 bed modern flat (renting), my room is upstairs and it is ensuite but it has no windows, just some kind of air ducts which don't really work..

It is pretty hot and stuffy, I can open the large glass doors on to the balcony downstairs and leave the door open during the day but no air seems to get up the stairs due to the layout of the flat.

I have a fan but that doesn't seem to help much...how can i circulate the air?

Thanks for any help!

    Buy a bigger fan???
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • Do you mean you have no window or balcony doors at all or are the balcony doors in your room?? If so why not leave the door open a bit for some air??

You mean an extracter fan in the en-suite? The type that comes on when you put the light on? That won't bring fresh air in, merely create a low pressure area in the en-suite, which, when the door is opened, will draw air from the bedroom; in theory, if the external balcony doors are open at this point, that'll drag fresh air from outside.

You can get portable air-conditioning units. Probably best to hire one from your local tool or plant hire place to see if it suits you before buying one.

Alternatively, get a HUGE fan next to the open balcony door to either blow the stale air out of the room or pull fresh air in from outside.

Yeah, not sure I understand. Are these doors in your room or not? I can read this as either you have a room with a balcony, or you live in an attick with absolutely no windows at all?

Does anyone remember the scene from the Young Ones, with the two blokes taking a holiday under a lightbulb in their closet?

Two dishevelled, unshaved men are lying on a raft in the middle of the ocean]
    Man #1: What was that?
    Man #2: What?
Man #1: ...Nothing. My mind's beginning to play tricks on me. I thought we were lying on a raft just now.
Man #2: You should take it easy, you know. You must be working too hard.
I]They're actually lying on a mattress in a dingy cellar lit by a bare bulb[/I
Man #2: Bloody hot, isn't it?
    Man #1: It is.
Man #2: I should get a lower wattage bulb.
    Man #1: Help! We're sinking! We're sinking!
Man #2: Relax. We're not sinking, we're not sinking. I'll get some fresh air in here.
I]He opens the door, revealing endless ocean, and breathes deeply[/I
    Man #2: Ah, that's better.
I]He closes the door, then pauses[/I
    Man #2: Uh...
    Man #1: What's the matter?
Man #2: Nothing! Nothing. Can you swim at all?
    Man #1: What?
Man #2: I was just wondering.
    Man #1: Wondering?
Man #2: Yes, I was wondering if you might swim to the chemist and get me something for my hallucinations.
Man #1: Have you had one too?
Man #2: Either that, or the whole town is flooded.
Man #1: You're right. We've been working too hard. I haven't had a holiday for over a year now.
    Man #2: What about this?
Man #1: What? This? A holiday? Two weeks in a cellar under a light bulb?
Man #2: It was all I could get.
