Cancelling Vodafone Contract

My Vodafone contract term is up towards the end of November and I plan to leave them as soon as possible thereafter. If possible I wish to transfer my number to another provider.

I understand I must give Vodafone a months notice to cancel, and can request a PAC code at the same time. Am I right in thinking if I use this PAC code immediately my number will transfer within a couple of days and I'll end up paying for two contracts for the best part of a month?

If I leave it until my contract with Vodafone has actually finished, and then ring up for a PAC code, and use it to transfer to another operator, will I still be charged for a months service from when this was requested?

What's the best way of avoiding paying two contracts for a month?

When you use the PAC code, it will cancel your existing contract as soon as the number transfer has completed.

Generally you will need to start your new contract, or at least set it up to the point in which you can enter the PAC code.

For orange, once the phone arrives you activate it online and then you enter the PAC code their.

    Example,
    Request PAC code
Vodafone contract ends on 20th October
Activate the PAC code on the 20th on the new contract
PAC code completed within 3 working day
So you pay for 3 days, (upto 5 if Saturday + Sunday) on your old contract.

Is a PAC valid indefinitely or is it for 30 days like a MAC for broadband?

Also do I request a PAC rather than requesting cancellation, and the cancellation goes through once the PAC is used?

If the latter, do I still have to provide a months notice, or if I request the PAC for example on the day my contract expires, will I just pay for the few days it takes to transfer the number, or will I pay for a whole month from when it was issued?

A pac lasts for 30 days.

If you want to keep your number you ask for a pac.
If you want to end the contract but don't want to keep your number request a contract termination.
You can only do one or the other.
