I bought a pair of pink GHD hair straighteners from a website - I received them today. When I tried to register them on the GHD website I was told that the serial number was fake.
I paid £62 (even though the website said they were £57.42). The package came from China even though the website seemed to be registered to the UK. The package did not have a return address. I have emailed them today but dont expect a reply.
When I was placing the order, a credit card verification website came up which made me feel as though the site was safe. I paid for the item by credit card and have phoned them up today and cancelled the card (just in case). I will also phone them on Monday to ask them to dispute it. I have read that the law protects purchases over £100 but I also saw a post on this website to say that they can honour charges less than this amount.
I am a good customer in that I clear any balances in full before they are due for payment.
Advice or guidance would be good. Thanks in anticipation.

If its half the normal price and from china 99% sure its knock off.
GHD are expensive but worth the money, my partners haven't skipped a beat in 4 years.
When you say you clear balances b4 they are due payment do you mean you pay it b4 the statement issued as that won't improve your credit as far as I am aware.0 -
bingy_burge - What I should have said is that when a monthly statement comes in I never just pay the minimum amount - I clear off the balance in full. So I never owe the credit card company anything.0

Plus - I didnt know they were from China :-(0

Which actually makes you a very bad customer - as they make no money off you.
What was the website you bought the product from?
Lots of products come from China.
I purchased a Necklace from a UK website which apparently sourced the produce from the US.
I tracked the invoice and it did go via the US but the product was shipped from China!
and the customs form said it was only worth 1$ - but that occurs alot to keep in the import taxes down.0 -

Once again another person on here saying that.
It is TOTALLY and UTTERLY wrong.
Every time you use your card, the shop gets charged a fee. This is how credit card companies make money from people who pay everything off on time.0 -
I didnt think you did it was just how you worded it.
Its doesn't necessarily make you bad customer it makes you a less profitable customer as they only get a small percentage of your purchases in fees. A bad customer is someone who misses payments and in worse case defaults. On here there is a divide with relation to whether you should allow you cc company to charge a little interest or just clear the balance in full and the end of day use each card every month and stay within your t & c's and they can't really complain.
If it a good half its normal retail chances are its to good to be true. If they have a uk address get on the phone to your local tradin standards.
If you want a set that bad just buy from a ghd dealer they are worth every penny I paid 120 for my partners and she loves them and the have lasted over 4 years.0 -

Yes, but if you consider their admin costs in providing the account (providing you with your interest free 30-60 days of credit, employing staff to man their call centres, running their computer systems, posting you statements, sending you replacement cards if they are lost/stolen, etc), and how much of the fee the card provider gets (a chunk goes to the retailer's merchant acquirer, a chunk to VISA/Mastercard/whoever, etc), I'd be surprised if they made much money out of you at all.
So it's not really wrong.0 -

You might also want to inform the police, and GHD themselves (they'll probably be interested to know the details of people selling counterfeits of their products).0 -
TBH I fell for this scam too. Fake GHD's. My threads on here somewhere. My CC is disputing it but ive taken it to complaints level cos I keep getting different information.
They will ask for proof that there fake - this involves sending them to GHD recorded delivery and awaiting 3 weeks for confirmation (at least £10)
Then sending all this information to your CC company and hoping they rule in your favour. If not your further out of pocket.
GHD couldn't really care less about the fakes, at least thats the impression I got when i called them.
Wasn't www.ghdoutlet.net by any chance? Or something along those lines?0 -

It's not wrong at all, I know EXACTLY how much is made and by whom.0
