My 12 year old still loves Club Penguin! It all seems fine to me and I'm a real 'horrible mum' when it comes to the internet! Habbo has a bad reputation though. My eldest sneaked onto it when she was still in primary school by changing her birth date ( her friend told her you had to to get on there!) Boy, was she in trouble when I found out........0

My kids haven't found club penguin so no direct experience but a few friends have been annoyed about how obsessed their kids got. Might be good to have rules about how much time is spent on there0

I think that applies to most computer games sites - parental control should go without saying!
Club Penguin is better than most, my niece loved it and it even won my mother's approval!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Thanks very much for all the answers. Since someone said you can join without having to pay a fee I might join to see what it is all about before I let her anywhere near it!
If it is that much funn, I might be able have it for good use too e.g. do your homework = Club Penguin use for a little while!
By the way, the Habbo bit, quite a long time in the past or recent events - can't remember if anyone mentioned when - just wondering if Club Penguin have ironed out the problems.0 -
My two oldest 8 and 6 love club pengin. I buy the top up cards for membership at supermarkets (one month £3.95) and toys r us (only place i have seen it six months £19.99). Bit weary about using my card to pay for it.
They both love it. It is highly addictive and i have yet to see any bad things on there.0 -
Another one here who can vouch for Club Penguin. It's very safe and harmless fun. My son's been on it since he was 7 and often meets his friends on there for a chat! Definitely a good bribe for completing homework!
Also, not sure if I interpreted you right toshkininny but it sounded as though you thought Habbo Hotel was part of Club Penguin?? Habbo is a completely different website - nothing to do with Club Penguin at all. Just wanted to reassure you

Oh, yes, sorry, I did think they meant that Habbo was part of Club Penguin. That's quite reassuring to know then, sounds like all good stuff so far for it.0 -
Im very strict with my DD online, so we really checked out club penguin before she went on there alone,
my OH signed up for a free account and tried to message my DD but as i had blocked the chat and made sure she can only receive the pre set words / messages i realsied that no-one can message her anything, innapropriate or not
i explained the dangers of the internet by then using OH as an example, other penguins were asking to be on his friend list cos he had a cute fluffy name, totally unaware that they were actually asking a 40 year old man!
DD was a free member for ages, so we got her a membership (6 months paid online, its a disney company and secure), by the time it had run out she hadnt been on for ages... she still pops on from time to time but nothing like the initial few weeks,
i advise letting your kids play on it for free first, the novelty may well wear off before you need to shell out for membership0
