Contract - PAYG. Different sims

Hi
If i buy a second hand phone that has been on orange contract, will i be able to put my existing PAYG sim into the phone and use it so that i can keep my number?
Do i have to do anything to the phone ( unlock it? ) to be able to do this?

For a diff network you will need to get it unlocked. There are loads of shops that do this now, just look in shop windows next time your on your local high street.

So..Orange contract - Orange PAYG.
Do i need to do anything to the phone?

If its an Orange phone then no, all the settings will be fine. Just stick your sim in and off you go.

If its not an Orange handset (sim free or unlocked from another network) it'll work with voice but you'll need Orange to send you the settings for mms/gprs/internet etc and get the message centre number for texts.
