www.gigantiko.com was closed this morning with the following message...

WE ARE CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE DUE TO HIGH VOLUME OF FRAUDULENT TRANSACTIONS. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.

So, if any payment processors read this message and www.gigantiko.com processes further payments now that the website is closed, that is even more proof (if more is needed) that www.gigantiko.com is a a fraud!

I actually managed to reach someone at www.gigantiko.com today. His voice sounded West African. He gave a lot of vague answers to my questions. When I asked for the Gigantiko address, all he could say was LONDON!

When he said that Gigantiko had lots of orders I expressed surprise and asked where he advertised. His answer was EVERYWHERE! Given the only reference to the site on the internet is lists of domain registrations and MSE, I don't believe his claim that they advertise everywhere!

I managed to get some info about Gigantiko's phone number (020 3371 9275). It is a VOIP number from Vonage - answerable on the internet, anywhere in the world! And I bet your bottom dollar that it is not being answered at the address they claim to be at:

    3 Bowman Avenue
    Canning Town
    LONDON
    E16 1LA

Does anyone know that address? It appears to be a residential area according to www.192.com.

You might want to look into CIFAS registration to prevent this from happening.

Thank you very much for that! I will be signing up tomorrow!!!

I think all credit companies should be implementing additional checks anyway, without being members of CIFAS! I think it should also apply to the likes of the Post Office who redirect mail!!

And why does it only apply to new credit applications? I would love to be able to require my credit card company to do name/address checks and 3D checks on ALL my card transactions!!

Cheaper and more effective than Protective Registration try the following:

That seems quite interesting in theory but, in practice, may to unwieldy to implement and lenders may be put off lending!

I've been using this system now for several years. I've applied for several different types of Credit Card over this period of time. Lenders have nothing to 'mplement', they are merely complying with YOUR instructions.

The down side is, that applications can take a little longer as they have to be processed manually.

Your second point is intersting - lenders put off lending. If I were a lender knowing ID Theft is a problem whereby I could end up picking up the risk, I know who I'd rather lend to. Someone who provided all the 'recognised' forms of ID, or someone who done the exact same PLUS submitting a print.

If enough people subscribe to this system, and it's your own choice, then there's no reason whatsoever why lending and borrowing can't be safer AND quicker.

    Jamie...

Sorry, I see merit in your idea but until it is recognised by the inudstry and government, I will give it a miss. I wish you good luck in your venture though.

I noticed yesterday that www.gigantiko.com uses text taken from other sites selling large shoes.

    In particular...

    http://gigantiko.com/mart/product_info.php?products_id=59

You will notice that the description of the shoe mentions the name of another business, actually based in Sweden! I do not doubt the bona fide of the Swedish business; it merely indicates that Gigantiko steals other people's website data as well as other people's credit card data!

    http://gigantiko.com/mart/shipping.php

The above link shows that Gigantiko copies text from another bona fide website selling large shoes in the UK.

I have now learned from my Credit Card issuer that the fraudulent credit card transaction and the failed fraudulent credit card transaction apparently originated in Germany.
