Is a John Lewis 5 year gtee on tv's any good?

I wish to purchase an LCD tv from JL and have a query re the 5 year guarantee.

I initially went to a Sony shop to look at the product range with a view to then purchase from JL, due to the 5 year gtee.

The Sony shop claims that if I purchase a TV from JL and the product breaks down, they will only repair it once and then charge me for each and every other occasion. Is that correct?

Who do John Lewis send out for tv repairs their own people?

I assume the sony shop is pulling a blag to make me buy from them, but any thoughts?

Surely a 5yr guarantee means exactly that. My old Sony Trinitron monitor went back 3 times over two years.....that had a 3 yr guarantee on it.

Some people simply can't beat a 5yr guarantee so I suppose they would have to lie to have any chance of a sale.

It's very good by all accounts. Very popular with the av buffs over on avforums and this sort of thing is their life!

Hi,
The 5 year guarantee is what it says, and yes, they stand by it.
In the Manchester area they use a 3rd party company.

Ask JL !

I've had, and heard, nothing but good about JL and their guarantees. I would take the Sony shop's comment with a large pinch of salt.
I've just bought a DVD recorder (Sony) from JL - £20 cheaper than anyone else and a two year guarantee.

JL are excellent. i would not buy from anywhere else!
