I bought 3 items from a seller who had the option of discounted postage for more than one item. When I went to pay for the items, the postage was not discounted. So emailed the seller asking him to recalculate the total amount. the seller came back and had discounted the postage but had added the "optional" postal insurance as a mandatory now as he was going to post all three items as one package. A bit cheeky I think. Should I have left a neg feedback for this seller??

I'm not talking about suspended users who get reinstated - this is about someone who you successfully pursue a Non-paying bidder complaint against.

If your non-paying bidder complaint is upheld, it can only be removed at your request - and if they have left a negative feedback against you for the item number that the NPB referred to, then you can have it removed.

The rules were changed last December and a quick look doesn't show them to have been changed again, so I would be interested in a link if this is the case. As it stands any buyer who does not respond to the NPB dispute, whether or not they are NARU'd, is unable to leave a feedback rating. They can leave a comment but the actual rating is removed by ebay software even before it hits your account. There is no need to ask for it to be removed manually.

However if the buyer does respond to the NPB dispute then they can leave feedback. The only way to get that feedback removed is to either attempt to get the buyer NARu'd on a technicality, or persuade ebay that the bid was malicious and was placed with the sole intention to leave negative feedback. Ebay will not remove a neg where a buyer has responded to the nPB process 'just because' the seller asks. If they did I would have been able to get my one and only neg on one of my minor accounts removed.

This is the link I am using BTW:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html

    where it says:

    Feedback and Unpaid Items

If a buyer does not respond to an Unpaid Item notification and the seller closes the case with an Unpaid Item strike, the buyer can still leave a feedback comment about the transaction, but any feedback rating they leave will not appear and will not count toward the seller?s feedback score. An eBay administrative note will appear under the buyer?s feedback comment, explaining that the buyer did not participate in the Unpaid Item process.

I think 100% positive will only really impress those new to ebay who've been watching too much Watchdog and think everyone on ebay is a thief. I think any regular ebayer will usually be able to spot the difference between a dodgy charecter and a genuine seller with a couple of negs and wouldn't be put off.

Having said that I'm getting on for 1000 100% positive with only one accidental neutral from 3 years ago and I don't want to lose it! If you're trying to shift an item and have a lot of competition then mentioning the 100% postive in your subtitle has got to help assuming your price is competitive.

I have 99.9% positive due to a complete !!!!!! who rejected my Paypal payment and then wouldn't send me his address to send a cheque and then negged me. I hit the roof, but then it didn't affect my sales so I got a bit more relaxed about it.

Had another recently, a guy paid by echeque (Don't you hate those?) waited a week!!! and then negged me for not sending the item. The payment hadn't even cleared!! After I had pointed this out, we did a neutral removal.

I think personally anything over 99% is ok depending on the feedback score the seller/ buyer has anything below 90% is a no!

Ebay does however need to sort out the amount of newbies who leave a negative for no reason or out of fear that they've been conned before the item has had time to arrive!
My broad mind and narrow waist are slowly swapping places!!
  • One neg has much more impact on a new seller than it does on one with a much larger score so i dont go on %s and I always read the comment , look at the feedback from the neg bidder, the product bought and other feedback before deciding who to buy from. It also depends on the value of the item as i take more care with the sellers of high value items.
