I have been a very silly child. Despite the advice given, I opened the account over the phone on Thursday 22nd because I was assured it would be opened immediately.

I checked the internet this morning and it had not been opened so I called CS and was told it would be opened in a week. I was really !!!!!! off about this and I told them so. My plan was to have £1000 in the account within 10days. I told them I was misinformed about when the account will be open and asked for them to stop the process as I'm going to the branch today to open it. I was told stopping the process was not going to be easy since it's been done by another department etc etc but they would make a note so that when my phone application reaches whoever, it would not be opened.

10 mins later I was in the branch opening the account, I just checked online (1hr later)and the account is there although the initial £500 is not there yet. My SO is for Thursday 29th so hopefully, I can then change the regular SO to the 1st of each month.

Speaking to the guy who opened my account it seems LTSB are overwhelmed by the demand and have pulled the plug on advertising although they are still opening accounts. Apparently they want to monitor the kind of people opening the account.

Lesson learnt? listen to advice given on MSE.

Yep, learnt this one a while ago. It's the distillation of the knowledge of many, many anal retentives! Unbeatable!

Hope you don't end up with two accounts!

    Hi All,

I opened my Classic Plus online (all going really well, account now open, just awaiting cards etc, I intend at the start of July to then go into branch and open a Regular Saver, as I'll probably only get the current account sorted by the end of this month! It'll also give time to transfer sufficient funds into the current account so as to be able to transfer the £500 opening balance and first standing order of £250 in straight away.

    Cheers

I opened my account by going in to my local branch. Everything went very smoothly, and took about 20 minutes. The account was opened immediately and when I went home and looked online, the account was there with my £500 sitting in it. I've booked my first standing order for the end of this month, so hope it will go through ok.

Must admit, I'm very impressed with Lloyds - their staff seem to know what they're doing

I checked my monthly saver again this morning, the balance is still £1,000...
I just hope all goes well when my July SO goes in.

I just had that thought too! If there is a problem with this then it is down to Lloyds staff having a poor understanding of their Head Offices use of the term 'calendar month' and I for one will be giving 'em 'ell!

    Just an update...

My July SO went into the monthly saver on Monday 3rd July, without any problems. My balance has remained at £1250 for the last 24 hrs. I don't envisage there being any problems.

We opened acct on 19th deposited £500 1st SO of £250 went in on 22nd then 2nd SO of £250 went in on 3rd... Shall I leave the SO on 3rd of each month? I would like to now move it to the end of Aug but will this benefit the account interest wise?

Since you would be delaying the August deposit from the 3rd until later in the month this move would reduce the interest return

I am curious as to why you thought it might be of benefit

Never thought it would be of benefit, I queried if it would benefit the account the interest. Which was the point of my query hence ? at end of sentence.

Thanks will leave standing order at 3rd of each month.
