I was told i would have to go into the branch to open my regular savings account.... which annoys me greatly as i dont see why i should have to when others are just opening them over the phone. I have had my confirmation through the post today as to my appointment. I have a list of items i need to take to prove my identity, address etc, for goodness sake i shouldnt have to go through this, they have had my custom for the last 12 years! Not only that, the id they need to prove my identity is a current driving license, or passport - i have neither.

You don't need to go into the branch, they say this so that the branch will get the sales, branch and contact centre are up against each other for sales, i know its stupid as we work for the same company but it is true. If you call contact centre I'll do it for you, lol. Only takes 5mins to set up and I know you'd rather let me get the bonus for doing it that the branch :)

Visit my branch approx every few years though been a customer for 20+ years, but am certainley not known at the branch. Walked in off the street without appointment, gave them my current a/c number, said I wanted the 8% saver and within 10 minutes had the a/c number, sort code, S/O all set up. No sales speech for other products. All very simple and efficient.
Surely you've been mis-informed if you've been told to bring ID with you.

I cant argue with a letter though can i? Its rediculous to the extreme i recon. I know they are worried about money laundering, but as LLoydsTsb is my main account, they can actually see where my money comes from - my husband!

Has anybody managed to transfer money into this account yet? I set up the account on Monday over the phone. The SO was set up for first of the month, but asked for the £500 to be transferred straight away. It still hasn't been taken from my current account.

Mine was transferred instantly in front of me by the manager. Ring them and ask them.

I've just spoken to the bank as I had opened mine (or so I thought) very first thing Monday.

They now tell me that the account doesn't actually get opened over the phone. They just take all the details - the amount you want to put in, the date you want the standing order to start, the account it's coming from. They then pass that on to the department which deals with it. Although I applied Monday, this was not the opening of the account.

I suggested I would have gone to the branch if I had known that this was not the account opening it was the application. The lady said it would have been the same at the branch.

They have a backlog of processing and will get around to me as soon as possible. In other words it's not open yet.

Has anybody got their account number and seen money in it and maybe seen a Standing Order already go out to it.

It really does seem very odd.

Hi, I'm new to this thread -and to the forums! - so I think I've missed the boat a bit. Can someone clarify this for me:

Some of you have pointed out that the best way to maximise the interest is to set up the regular saver with £500 + an immediate £250 before the end of the month, then put in another £250 via s/o at the start of the following month.

As I don't have a Lloyds TSB current account at the moment, I will have to open one before I can open the regular saver. It's now the 26th - can I open both accounts on time, or should I wait till the end of next month?

Also, I already have two other current accounts, and I'm not planning to switch over. Will opening the Classic account be enough? And how much money should I transfer into it every month? I'm juggling money left and right now, so I don't want to deposit more than I need to - preferably just £250 per month just to fund the regular saver, if it's not too cheeky!

Sorry if these have already been answered elsewhere!

As I said, opened in branch Tuesday, £500 transferred into new account there and then, SO set up at same time manually on piece of paper as the system didn't seem to offer that as an option online when manager and I were doing it together. By Thursday SO visible on my accounts to leave on 30th.
