Microwave help needed.

Hi,

I am thinking of treating us to a new Microwave as a surprise.

Do I get a combi or not?

Always wondered if the combi is as good as deal as they make out and are they harder to clean?

Struck me that coventional Micro needs very little cleaning but combi would be more work.

Also, does anyone know of any good deals out there ATM.
ADVICE ANYONE, for good ol' Riz, Please!!

Ok mate has a combi and this is his story, short but sweet.

Bought a Sanyo one with Combi, 13mths later Micro bit stopped working, now its totally bust 299 down the drain and never buy one with a stainless steel inside as they are a nightmare to clean even Barry Scott wont clean it.

Just buy a Microwave with enameled inside, wipes clean in seconds 3yrs later my cheapo Micro only £25 is still whizzing along :)

I've had a combi microwave for oh about 6 or 7 years now, if not longer. It's a Sanyo. I love it. I use it equally as a microwave to warm up food, or as a conventional oven because as there are only two of us it's smaller than my conventional oven and heats up much more quickly. Also as far as heat is concerned I also find it more reliable than my conventional oven. For instance I always make my yorkshire puds in it and they always come out perfect.

I'm thinking it will have to be replaced eventually as the plastic covering of the door is slightly damaged, but I keep putting it off and I would only replace it with a similar product.

I don't use the grill part on it at all. I also find that to clean it if you put a bowl of water with some lemon juice or better even some white vinegar and blast it on full power it will make cleaning it much easier. It will also be easier if you clean it everytime you use it and not every 6 weeks.... like I've done in the past (hangs head in shame lol!)

PS I'm not getting paid by Sanyo for advertising their product :(:)

i would never buy a combined micro/grill oven...because we never use it for anything other than microwaving, and its harder to clean than a conventional micro.

different strokes for different folks though. as faith said, if you will use the grill/oven facilities, and clean it regularly, then its a great bit of kit to have.

I have a combi microwave, but I forgot that it was one until I saw this thread.

I never use the grill part, its useless IMO much eaiser to use the grill on the oven

You can either be lucky or unlucky. A couple of my friends and BIL swear by their COMBI's ... we are poor though and only have a microwave :D

One thing to be careful of though. I am led to believe that some of them can get very hot around the sides and top so they need plenty of breathing space (or they can ruin your kitchen cupboards .. however you keep it in the bedroom to wamr the baby oil then you should be OK ... sorry .. my mind started to wander there ...

    Great.

Thanks for the constructive advice/views and especially thanks to Nelly.:)

It looks as though a combi would be most practical but not all that necessary.

Like the hint about the white vinegar bit, too.

And we haven't got any babies, Ivan. Thanks all the same:)

No real horror stories, I'm glad to see.

    Any more views most welcome.

    Riz.

Actually Glad, I did post this question on what i thought to be the most appropriate board, namely I wanna buy-it or do-it but only got one reply.

Thanks for moving it to what you think is a more appropriate board - time will tell if I get more replies - but I was after a speedy response to my Q as I need to make a purchase rather imminently.
