Strange Ebay Email

I keep being emailed by someone saying that I sold them Mission Impossible 3 and Silent Hill (which I didn't because I don't sell DVD's, let alone copies)

They say in their email that they paid for the items through paypal, even though the listing was removed and if they don't receive them they will start a dispute.

However where do I stand with this because I have not sold this person anything, and I have not received any funds into my Paypal account. I'm a bit concerned as I don't want money being claimed off me that I haven't actually got

Have just checked all my seller activity and the last thing I sold was on 19th April which was a computer game then nothing before that until 2005.

I'm just worried in case Paypal take money off me, when I am not the real person who needs to refund the buyer

you sound like you know what your on about (Ebay wise)

but just to be safe, its not phising is it?

But then its a bit hard to make it look like ebay, when you havent sold it through ebay, but still, do as browntoa says, not much more you can do

im guessing you dont have their ebay id to check either :-/

im guessing the only thing you can do, is contact ebay, and the guy, saying you may have the wrong e-mail address, (perhaps he emailed the wrong person in his address book) and can he double check this.

Or say that someone may have registered your address as a contact details, and has taken the payment and ran (of course he/she wont likely beleive that)

I have checked the ID of the person saying they brought the item off me, and have emailed them through ebay to basically say "Can you check your account activity as you have not brought anything off me"

Thanks, guess I am just worried that the person will try and get money off me. But I suppose in the dispute console they need to put the item number in so it wouldn't come back to me anyway

It could be a Phishing email. Forward it to spoof@ebay.co.uk
Don't click any of the links in the email.

It sounds really like a phishing email. They want you to log into your ebay account from the link in the email and then they will have your password. When logging onto ebay never do it from an email link even if you do recognise the seller or buyer. Always go to the ebay home page and log in from there.

I think I must have done this at some point because about a year ago someone got into my ebay account and listed 100's of mobile phones and some were being bid on for over £100. To cancel the auctions I had to cancel all the bids and then cancel the auction which took forever and as fast as I was doing it they were listing more. I contacted ebay but it took them 24 hours to respond and I had to stay logged in for that 24 hours because as soon as I logged out they would change my password and list 100's more phones.

In the end they were traced to a mobile phone company in Walthamstow.
