Shower Vs Bath

We have been having a similar debate in our house and decided that although 99.9% of the time a shower is the answer there may be times when a bath may be needed. For example my brother recently broke his wrist and ankle and needed to bathe rather than shower for a few months.

We looked at the "P" baths which seemed OK, but are almost certainly now going to buy one of the shower steam baths that are appearing on the market. The main attraction is that the whole unit is complete with all the brass ware, just needs water and electrical connections, they also have the luxury look which might help when we sell, and if you shop around the cost is reasonable if you consider all the tiling effort that you save.

Don't remove the bath. However illogical it might seem, most people don't use their brains when buying somewhere, and the prospect of not having a bath (even if they always shower in practice) will send most buyers scuttling away in horror.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
  • Families with small kids won't be interested in buying a house without a bath, which will narrow down the number of people interested in it, which might effect the price.

why not comprimise and fit a shower bath? these are very stylish and although a little more costly than a normal bath, but by the time you add on the cost of buying a half decent shower tray then a half decent shower enclosure, you could be looking at spending several hundreds pounds.

i have just fitted a shower bath for a customer who purchased it from wickes and i thought it was great quality and the whole price including the basin and toilet and curved shower door was £600 including the taps the customer picked.

there are some great ebay shops selling these so its worth checking around to see what it might cost you versis installing a shower cubicle??

Some good advice here guys thanks very much. Think by all of your comments it could be worth keeping the bath, as this property will be sold in the short to the medium term, i'm gonna look into installing a shower bath maybe, have to do my research though!!

    Cheers

It would put me off. My preference is to have a bath unless it is very hot or I need to be quick. I still bathe my 2 kids together, and the youngest aged 3 will not go in a shower, she is frightened of them. If I had to choose between 2 similar properties, the house with the bath would win for these reasons.

Speaking as a shower lover I would say that if your house is a "Family Home" and you intend marketing it to the family buyer then a bath is almost mandatory. If however you are in a free and single type of place then you may get away with a shower. Buyers expect certain things in bathrooms and a family home has to have a bath. Just my opinion of course.
