espresso.....I remember trying to copy a picture on a shopping website once and it wouldn't let me and a message came up saying 'copyright protected' or something along those lines. I am assuming that's the type of thing the school is intending to do.
This site has that
I have the Restore Context Menu bookmarklet

I have been a governor at a number of schools and this subject crops up frequently. My 3 primary schools had a really simple policy for pictures on websites - don't show the children's faces full-on. Always show the child from the side or from the rear e.g. in the classroom photographed from the back of the room looking towards the teacher.
There is some guidance on the DfES website - http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholeschool/familyandcommunity/childprotection/usefulinformation/photosandvideos/photoschoolevent/
Don't forget that this isn't just about websites. Many schools allow pupil's photos to be published in the local press - often with names attached.

Thanks for the pointers and advice.

I may be being very unfair, but we live in a small town and I do often think the Head has 'small town mentality' with certain things. The suggestion is that kids should be individually photographed proudly showing their pieces of work as well as group settings.
I know there are a number of parents who are desperate to ooohh and aahhh over their kids on this site but I don't believe they have thought through the implications of it and the possible misuse that could occur over their kids' photos.
My gut feeling this morning was to not allow my daughter to be included, but I did not have facts on which to base a decision on. I do now and I'm happy to stand by my original feelings on the matter.
Thanks again, all.Herman - MP for all!

I really dont think there are implications to be honest.
People get photographed all the time without their express consent - tourists walking round with cameras taking pictures of the sights and happen to catch you in it... it is as likely that one of those is actually taking pictures of young girls/ boys and not the palace in the background as it is they will go online to a small towns school website to steal faces to put on the bodies of other photos...
I know the saying that "just because your paranoid doesnt mean they're not after you" but I think this really should come down to what your kid wants - do they want to have a photo of them showing their work off to the world or not?All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

That's as may be Astaroth....but to my mind there is a world of difference between a picture being taken that you are unaware of and unable to do anything about......and deliberately putting a photo of your own child up on the web for anyone to see.
Btw, my daughter is 6 - I don't care whether she wants the world to see her work, she is too young to make decisions like this. That is why she has parents who will make decisions for her based on what's best for her rather than how nice something might be for her. :rolleyes:Herman - MP for all!

I do not disagree that as her parent you have the final say, I am simply saying that if she were my child, as I have no issues with "suitable" pictures being posted on the net I would defer to her choice of if she wants to be online (ie if she didnt want to be I wouldnt force her). All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I dont see why a website would need pictures of pupils anyhow, specailly not individual photos....
I would be quite happy to have my daughters art work etc posted on a website, so people can see what type of work has been done in that year/school/class.
Far too many freaks out there for me to be happy with that.0 -
I guess the diversity of opinion is what makes the world an interesting place.
I had my original question regarding what was possible technically with web pics, and I'm happy to leave it at that. There is no doubt in my mind that I have made the right decision.
If anyone wants to discuss the ins and outs, it might make for an interesting Discussions topic maybe?
