Anyone help me with factual info please?
Local school are setting up their own website and intend putting pics of the children on it (with the parents permission). They intend to make the pics unable to be copied or downloaded.
If someone is determined enough and computer savvy enough......is there a way round this and could the pics be copied or downloaded?

Thanks Quincy. If it's as easy as that then you have just helped me decide whether to allow my daughter to be included or not.

The thing is where do you stop. I mean nobody knows who has a picture of who, even me or even you I may have one of me at school at the Friends Reunited site, as long as the picture is ok in respect of the amount of clothing, i.e its not by the local swimming pool but in uniform I think that will be fine and with that picture no address details of individuals are posted I think youll be fine, or we will live in fear way to easily, and thats a bad thing if taken out of context.

It is not possible to prevent the pictures from being copied or downloaded as they have to be downloaded onto the computer viewing the website.
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It's not the picture itself that I am really bothered about tbh. As you say, it will only be of a little girl in school uniform.
The problem I have is that if a copy of this picture is able to be got, then it can also be altered to any image the person chooses, including taking my daughter's head and putting it on another child's body.
Am I paranoid? I expect so.
Is anything likely to happen? Probably not.
Is the internet a haven for people with sick tendancies? Yes.
Am I going to err on the side of caution? Yes, I am.
espresso.....I remember trying to copy a picture on a shopping website once and it wouldn't let me and a message came up saying 'copyright protected' or something along those lines. I am assuming that's the type of thing the school is intending to do.
Thanks v. much for all the replies. :beer:Herman - MP for all!

What espresso means is that piccies are downloaded into the browsers cache by default so it is on your PC anyway if you go to the temp folder its very easy to get hold of.
edit: Sorry about explaining what you knew espresso but I had a toilet tantrum (too much booze last night)

Then you go to the Options window and disable Javascript and you can save anything you want to. Or in Mozilla you go to Page Info/Media and it lets you save the image from there.
Basically, if the user can see it they can save it, even if they have to use 'print screen' to take a screenshot. If you're worried about psychos tracking down your kids from the web, the most viable solution would probably be to password-protect the site so that only parents and kids can access it... ok, you might have some psycho parents at the school, but in that case you're in trouble anyway

I've got two little girls and I would be in exactly the same position as you. I wouldnt call it paranoid, i'd call it fact and life!0
