Vodafone won't let me cancel my contract on a faulty phone

I was given a 14 day trial for my Windows Xperia X1 mobile to see if I liked it within which time I could return it if I didn't. After those 14 days it started freezing almost instantly, it would turn off for no reason and on one occasion it deleted all my contacts.
Not only this, but because I own a Mac laptop and the phone is a Windows phone, I have to pay £35 to download the software to sync my mobile for photos. Even with this 'missing sync' there is no option to sync videos off of my mobile.

After having rung Vodafone they told me all I can do is send it back up to three times before they consider offering me a different phone or perhaps ending my contract early (which if I wanted to do this now would cost me £540).

Should they have told me that it's not a Mac compatible phone (not even mentioned on the website), told me it would have cost me extra to buy this software and told me I can't sync videos off of my mobile?

Is there any way I can end my contract early? Even if the phone is repaired from freezing I can't pay the extra money just to sync my photos.

Not their responsibility to work out what people type of pc people use at home.
Its really down to you to pick the phone right for you in the first place.

As above, it up to you to do the research before you buy rather than after.

Surely you realized it was windows mobile in the 14 days you were trying it?

Can you just bluetooth the stuff to the mac?
  • I knew it was a windows mobile, but I didn't think it would cost extra to sync my photos.

Bluetooth, syncing, any way of getting the photos off isn't initialised until you buy the software.

The operator only states the phone that is been provided, for full details like how it works with a MAC you need to look up the product features at the manufacturers website yourself.
As above, you have used your 14 days so you cannot say you are not happy with it, at this point the operator will only repair/replace the phone as necessary under warranty.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
