buying sofas online

Hi there

Please be gentle with me....its my first post here.
If I am in the worng place please redirect me. :D

I am needing to buy a couple of sofas, my old suite has seen its day! Has anyone bought online ?? Were you happy with the product.... can you successfully buy without having sat on the thing!! Did the colour meet your expectations. What about delivery. I will not be in town for several months hence my desire to buy online.

Thank you

  • Hi there

Try 'Sofa Sofa' http://www.sofasofa.co.uk/ - they often have open days in London and other places, and I'd definitely go and see before buying... as some of the pictures, though accurate, don't display the quality (or lack of) of the sofas.

I got two three-seat 'Manhattan' Sofa's for the same price as one from Sofa Workshop and, three years later, they still look great. BTW don't bother with the fabric protection. It's a waste of money!

cheers....sofasofa was one of the sites I have been browsing. Its a thought buying something you will sit on for years unseen ..... but I have heard good reports of this company.
  • I just bought a suite from Land Of Leather.
I thought about buying online too but am glad i didn't as some suite's look really nice but are really uncomfotable to sit on. It seems to depend on whether you like sitting upright or slumping.

I'd go find a suite you like then search for the make & model online to see if it's any cheaper.

I'd also only pay a deposit on it and pay in full on receipt of the suite as delivery is usually quite long and i've noticed a few of the smaller companies go out of business quite easily.

We bought our leather suite online from:

    www.indigofurniture.co.uk

We bought it without having seen or sat on it, and I was a bit worried, I understood we were taking a chance, and for us it was BIG purchase, one that had to go right.

However, the sofa is excellent quality, utterly deliciously comfortable, and the company were fantastic - the customer service was superb.

I would happily 100% recommend them to anyone.

    This is the sofa:

No way should anyone buy sofas without seeing touching and sittin on them - its too expensive a mistake to make

It was HUGE risk, agreed, and we were lucky, but as I said in our luck we found an excellent company who we will buy from again.

we bought our 3 piece suite from argos and i cannot fault them in any shape or form.
their delivery was spot on time and the delivery men even took off the packaging and took it away with them.

when i ordered the suite i ordered it through the website along with wall unit and sideboard so i guess i spent quite a bit of money with them,
i had a call from them within the hour of placing order and they said that if i wasnt happy with anything i purchased then i could just send it back.

i explained about not having seen the suite and i didnt know if it was gonna be suitable for my living room sizewise and they said it wasnt a problem

the suite is beautiful and so comfy
    i would defo recomend argos

  • I think colours are often a few shades out from what they look like on the computer screen to what they are in real life.
  • We bought a sofa and 2 armchairs from sofa sofa 2 years ago, we had looked and sat on so many in the stores, but were limited to size, we kept finding if the sofa was the right size for our room, the chairs were too wide, and vice versa, so when we saw the right combination in their catalogue we went for it. They sent samples of fabric and I believe they did have a returns policy if we changed our minds.
Have had no problems, it is really comfortable, looks really good still, perhaps we were lucky too, but we would do it again. It helps I think, if you check the measurements against an existing suite, especialy the seat depth, and the height of the seat (from the floor) and the height at the back, that sounds obvious I know, but is easily overlooked.
    Hope this is of help.

I too have purchased a sofa online....................did I have butterflies after I confirmed the order. Payment on delivery by Bankers Draft. This style sofa was a good £200 cheaper online than at Fenwicks, sample fabric was what I wanted and it was scotchguarded. Two burly Welsh men arrived on the appointed day with the sofa extremely well wrapped. I could see straight away the fabric was what was ordered and correct style. The guys unwrapped for me and I was delighted but did sign "not examined upon delivery". I was absolutely delighted with it and still am. I did doubt whether it had been scotchguarded. I was given a certificate to confirm it was but I was doubtful until I spilt a half a cup of tea over it and the liquid just floated on top of fabric. I would order again without any hesitation. A few years ago I was after a brown leather traditional style chair, £150 cheaper than Fenwicks by flicking through those brochures.
