so how long would they expect a £1000 excess to last?

I do not know but I do not think it is set in stone.

it must be really annoying for people who work hard and save their wages instead of peeing it up the wall only to discover they get penalised when they lose their job.

it is especially as we were saving for wedding.mind 6000 redundancy would go along way to cover it
  • if someone had 10000 but said they had nothing how would they find out? is the jobcentre legally allowed to look into peoples bank accounts or do banks automatically tell the jobcentre? of course most people are law abiding and would probably be too scared to risk being prosecuted for fraud as that is what it would be to lie about what is in your account.

Its called data matching. They WILL find out eventually.

So you expect the taxpayer to pay for your wedding! Benefits are there to help if you are in need, not to help you save for a wedding. Be thankful you have the redundancy money to help you, most people on benefits have nothing.
