Hmmm call me a cynic but in my experience the wheels of improvement run very slowly in the banking world.
  • LOL that reads to me that the co op are changing to visa debit and tesco will soon except visa electron.

I'll believe it when I see it (or when I can eat the food that had been delivered by Tesco!!!)!!!!!!!

I miss Tesco Home deliveries..[no...not 'miss' so they call back later...miss as in....'miss']........getting those trays was like opening a jamboree bag....never knew what [or rather, whose] shopping you'd get....

In the 5 years or so we used tesco home deliveries, we reckoned to have actually made a profit....[they never wanted fresh stuff back...and considered it inconvenient if we returned other stuff.....but always rang and let them know of the mess-up...]....tesco home deliveries introduced me to the delight of fresh cream horns...[my treat, whenever they're on offer].....

now I call in as-and-when....checking out the 2ndhand counter for cheapo goodies.....beware the pensioners though, they're vicious.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Ohhhh! I know what you mean about strange extra's turning up in the shopping, I once got 6 tins of cat food - unfortunately I have a rabbit but the local cat rescue centre was very pleased!

Oh and watch out for the students they are much worse than the pensioners, they go in groups and surround the reduced areas and noone else gets a look-in!!!!;)

Thanks for that Phil, it's a joke to have something called something but isn't really that (I know what I mean even if you dont!) so in this day and age the change would have to be made sooner or later, so confirmation of Tesco big wigs agreeing to accept it is brill. Even if we have to wait a bit longer it's good to read they've acknowleded it and are setting the wheels in motion.

If I can use my card as a visa debit I can honestly say i'll forever have a basic account and stick two fingers up at the banks for 'helping me throughout my life' with overdrafts and charges. Wooohooo for my basic account!!!

    'ear 'ear!

    My sentiments exactly.....

to be fair to electron, [and co-op].... I have NEVER had an issue with the card.

For sure, I cannot use tesco online, but that is hardly an issue with me.

The only other time electron has got 'in the way' was when I made some online purchases.....and the vendor called me back to say the number wouldn't compute, had I dialled it in correctly?
When he discovered it was because of electron [and I was happy to cancel the purchase]....he rang back later to tell me he'd had his CC machine re-calibrated to accept electron....so the sale went through!
[it seems electron didn't work with 'customer absent' sales]

the only other major money-grabber that wont accept electron online is the water company.

since I point-blank refuse to go direct debit [yup, I know the customer is protected...but mess-ups still create inconvenience, we still have to watch our accounts, if cash flow is short, then charges are made.....and there's not a lot to stop higher payments going out with little warning...I am thinking primarily of power companies, etc....].....so I pay via a paybook, at the local shop....

paypoint is marvellous.....waterbill gets paid, shop gets much needed commission, and I pay when I want to, not when they want to raid my account.

The only time I've had a problem is when the card machine wasn't working in a shop and they got out their old fashioned machine that you put in the paper with carbon copy (remember those!!!) so it needed raised numbers. The other place is my local council for payments of council tax - I am on DD now so not a problem. I don't 'pay at pump' - you can't buy chocolate at the same time if you do that ;) and if I need to shop anywhere else online that doesn't accept electron I use DS's or OH's card.
