    The other place is my local council for payments of council tax

    Can you not pay online?

    My LA has online payments facility, which accepts electron...
    No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • I am happy enough with my electron and cashplus pre pay mastercard. I load up a proportion of my wages to my cashplus card this is then used for tesco.com, i have been loading up more than i use so have about £400 extra on the card now! woot.. a few months into br though I had to go to quickfit for tyres.. the shame when they wouldnt accept my electron (and i did not have enough on the cashplus to clear the bill) I had to leave kwik fit on foot and walk up town to withdraw from the cashmachine!
    Apart from that the toll booth on some motorway (think M5) would not accept my electron, luckily that day i had the extra on cashplus so was able to put the £3 fee on that..
    I dont think i will get rid of the cashplus even if everywhere accepts electron, i like having two cards in my purse but I can use it as a source of saving for clothing and extras :-)

    No, thats how I tried it in the first place - even if I tick visa debit it doesn't work. Small price to pay I feel though. I did dread paying by DD but so far its all worked okay.

    here comes my ''red-under-the-bed'' head again....

    Direct Debit is solely for the benefit of banks,and major companies/ financial institutions, but is packaged as a benefit for the customer.

    let's not forget that?

    {how many of you have fallen foul of the small print in Budget [and other] insurances....which states, your policy will be renewed for whatever premium they chose, by direct debit, UNLESS you inform them 3 weeks 6 days and 2 hours before renewal.....which notification they conveniently lose/ignore/never recieved..and it takes an age to recover/cancel your insurance....}

    Direct Debit allows THEM to take advantage of YOUR inertia.

    As a consequence, I will avoid DD like the plague.

    I have always been reluctant to pay some things by direct debit but I have no hesitation in cancelling DD's when it suits me (and I have done on many occasion).

    I don't know, I've always found DDs convenient. With 10 CCs on top of bills it's just easy to forget to pay something. And why waste the time on the phone/online every month anyway. Of course agreed on the pitfalls, you need to watch out for other things.

  • I think I'd rather keep the electron, it saves a fortune on flights, I've only come across 2 places that don't like it, that's Kwik Fit (cash machine over the road from my local one anyway) and Tesco's online, and after using Tesco online once I certainly won't be using them again. I can't see any benefit of a visa debit over electron.

    According to this thread (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2006303), the Co-op Cashminder debit card has now been recognised as a VISA debit, instead of Electron now.
