We have just put my baby girl into nursery for 2 days a week. Its about £40 a day. Chatting to my wife last night and was rather surprised when she said that we have to pay even when she doesn't attend. Now I understand paying if she's ill and you make a last minute descision not to attend but it seems odd that we can give 6 months notice to go on holiday and they still charge (is that standard?).
We also have a dog that cost £16 a day for kennels (plus you pay on pick up day but don't get me started on that!) so if we want to go on a weeks holiday its gonna cost us £208 before we even do anything!
No more holidays for us then...
:(:(

Nurseries still have to pay their expenses and staff, even if you're on holiday. Take the dog with you and save money.0

I think paying when the child is not there must be standard I know friends that have to pay even when their child is not there.0

yeah its right enough...your kid is using up a space which could be someones elses...same goes for childminding...its alot of money!
I would just go on holiday while the schools were off if thats possible. You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -

You will just have to budget that in.
Childcare is very expensive, my first born was put into nursery at 12 weeks and it cost me £150 per week, I only earned after tax £175 per week, (I didn't qualify for much child tax credit as they take my husband salary into account) so I couldn't afford it for two children 5 days a week, hence the reason I'm now a SAHM supported by my husband.0 -
so in the summer when say lots of the children are off for various reasons what are they supposed to do with the staff, out them on short time or make them take their holidays then. Thery have a very strict ratio of child to nursery worker dependant upon age group and even if there is half the chidren missing the nurserys outgoings are the same (except for food).
Unfortunately the fees are the same every month whether you are off sick on holidays or whatever the reason.0 -

That does seem a lot - is it a Great Dane or something else huge? We pay £12 a day for a Cocker Spaniel - and, yes, we do have to pay for the day we pick her up.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
My son's nursery is charity run and up until recently we could opt to give advanced notice and not pay fees, but the nursery we out of pocket because of this so stopped.
They do let us swap days free of charge if one is available, which I don't think many nurseries do.0 -
I pay £5 a day for my Mastiff at Kennels! Its a small kennel, they only have a few dogs at a time!0

Going back to work for me, will make us as a couple, £8.41 a week better off! (Not including petrol, parking, bought lunches, the billions of birthday/new baby/retirement/wedding etc collections).
I'm looking forward to being a SAHM for the next 4 years.
