Royal Mail - is it theft?

"This is more like a mail hostage situation if you ask me."
I have a vision of a parcel in full riot gear calling royal mail and starting negotiations
In all seriousness though, did they have postal insurance? Is this not covered after a certain length of time that the package is lost and if so can you claim on that? Otherwise I think its just a wait and see game...Mortgage Free since January 2018!0 -
Speaking of RM theft...
We had a couple of very important parcels awaiting a courier collection at work (so not marked for RM, no postage paid - quite obviously not for RM!), and an RM driver picked them up "by accident".
It took them 2 days to realise (and we had no idea where they'd gone and who had taken them), so they said they'd bring them back, except then someone else accidently picked them up (duh!), put them in a van, and they had no idea which sorting office it had gone to.
2 weeks later, and not only have they lost one of the boxes, they then had the audacity to charge about £11 for the delivery of the other, because they refused to return it to me.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Now, when paying their £11 charge, shall I then bill them the £5000+ this delay has cost...?
Some areas seem to be rather chaotic over this strike...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Pinkshoes, may I suggest that your employer is at fault. Do they normally allow people to walk out of the office with items unsupervised?0
-
It was from the goods out section of the warehouse. The RM stuff is all bagged up and labelled, and they (RM) come in daily to collect it. These boxes were much bigger than what they normally collect, and were not labelled, and not in a sack, so it's very odd that they picked them up.
I think it was presumed that RM would have the sense to know it wasn't for them, but in future someone will be monitoring their collections!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

same here I have had a lot of issues with those and as they are based in Peterborough have had things take 2 weeks to reach me. I think i will call them as a national strike could affect their business and I may then cancel my account if they do not make other decent provisions.
What provisions do you expect them to take? Send ite,s by courier at a cost of £3 - £4 as opposed to 30 odd pence???
There is no alternative to the Royal Mail. Other mail companies do collect and sort mail, but nobody else operates a national delivery service, and understandably so, the costs of setting one up and running it are immense.0 -

Amazon are switching to UKMail for 2nd class. Staying with RM for 1st class.0 -

I've just had a credit card statement pop through my door with a UKMail postage envelope. Guess who delivered it? Royal Mail. There is no alternative to the Royal Mail
Even UKMail, TNT and DHL can't find a suitable alternative. There is no alternative.0 -

According to the UKMail website, they hand over to Royal Mail for the "last mile". They're presumably taking advantage of RM's universal obligation to deliver, because that's the cheapest option for them -- and probably the most expensive option for RM. They get left with the most labour-intensive part of the operation, with all the pension and union problems that involves, while UKMail and other operators cream off the more profitable parts of the journey.0 -

And before you all start with the snide remarks, I am just asking for some help and advice please... they have something of irreplaceable sentiment of mine and it's not right.
