Opinions wanted please - hand mixer?

I just ditched my old Kenwood Hand mixer a few weeks back, it was still going strong after more than 20 years, but I was so ashamed of the colour of it. It used to be white but had turned yellow with age. It was an engagement present, a combo gift package that included a blender; funny that gave up the ghost around the same time - I poured some soup into it and it all leaked out of the bottom, the seal must have totally withered away. Can't grumble at the length of service they have given me.
Without much thought I replaced the hand mixer with a cheapo Breville one and it's fine for all I need - to whip cream, eggs etc It struggled a bit to beat a packet of rock solid cold cream cheese though.
Wish I had researched a bit and seen the more industrial looking black ones and I might have been enable to entice the other half to dabble in the kiitchen with my power tools. The original janiebaby0 -
I've got the James Martin one and it is fine.Jane

Thanks to everyone who has replied - you've certainly given me plenty to think about.
At present I'm thinking about getting this one
It's reasonably priced, and will do what I want at the moment. Probably the worst it will ever have to do is cream butter for icing unless I start getting more adventurous with my baking. And maybe by then I'll have the space for a Kenwood Chef :j I'll procrastinate for a bit longer (but not too long as I have to bake a birthday cake next weekend :D)
I'll let you all know what I decide to buy0 -
My Braun MR5040HC was the best £29.39 I've spent for a long time. Get the best, but shop around for the best price. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

Hi GLitzkiss, I think that's my old white one!! They've definitely updated it!
Aren't Oser's great, you've had a really good wide range of useful replies here. The one you've selected is 250watt, so is the white 320 model, might be worth doing a price comparison search, unless you really fancy the chrome one!!
I think you'll find it one of the handiest, easy-to-use gadgets, whichever one you buy!!0 -
Thanks to everyone for your information on here, after reading all these posts I knew what I wanted in a mixer.
I've just ordered the Morphy Richards FoodFusion hand mixer (300w and with dough hooks) from the Morphy Richards web-site. It was £39.17 reduced to £25.46 with free delivery. It comes with 2 years guarantee and if you register the product with them within 28 days they extend that to 5 years.
I've just chucked my £3.50 Tesco hand mixer in the bin - after almost 2 years together its broken, but I'm not complaining - its done me well. I just wanted something a little better this time. If my new one only lasts 5 years it will be about £5 a year and well worth it.

I got a bit fed up of using the Kenwood Chef for small things so decided I'd get a hand mixer. I didn't want to spend too much because I have the Chef already, so I shopped around a bit and found this one in Sainsburys. It's 300w and feels really quite powerful, and it's also very sturdily built and feels like it'll last for years. It's only £12.99 too which is great. I'm thrilled to bits with it.
Thought I'd post it in case anyone is still looking for a hand mixer, hope it helps someone.0
