I wanna trace people for FREE!

I'm doing some adoption work and need to trace birth fathers to inform them of their children's imminent adoption by step fathers, and I want to be able to find them for free over the internet if possible.

I anticipate that most of the fathers will still live in our local area.

Any ideas? The only websites I've found want a fee.

Many thanks.

If you have their names go to the local library and look them up in the voters register.

  • I don't think any people search sites are free. I've looked for these sites in the past and they all ask a fee.

Many of the free sites like b4usearch and 192 seem out of date anyway. Their databases have people down as living in houses they may have moved from 3 years ago.

As for the local electoral roll, they only show people who haven't requested being put in the private electoral roll register. So, you are really getting a false result that way too.

I think it's extremely difficult tracing people unless you pay a fortune or the people you are looking for want to be found, or have no reason to keep their identity private to the public.

If anyone does know how to trace people without cost successfully please let me in on it. :)

I think that if you go to the council offices you can view the whole electoral register, and not just the abridged version. Always assumes they are in the same area. It will be long job as the electoral roll is by street name, not surname.

If this is for official work then you should be able to spend some money surely?

I didn't think just anyone could view the full electoral roll. + I'm not sure how up to date it is. I searched for someone and they were still down as living at an address 2 addresses ago.
  • I think if u work for an agency you can ask the DWP to forward a letter to the birth parent.

Isn't the onus on the birth mother to inform you of the birth father's details, do they remain in contact with paternal grandparents who could inform you of the birth father's whereabouts.

  • Anyone involved in adoption work will have to follow the protocols of the organisation they are employed by. These organisations will be experienced in this kind of activity. How has it been carried out previously?
