Why do people bother bidding when they dont want to bid close to the reserve price?

they probably dont know what your reserve price actually is or your reserve price is too high. theres a seller listing lots of things that i want, BUT they're all extremerly overpriced, so they never sell.
why not use buy it now instead?0 -

I have bid on items which then display 'reserve not met'. But I've not seen the actual reserve quoted.

The reserve is not automatically shown although some sellers do put it in the auction. However the minimum a reserve can be is £50, so most buyers know that any bids below that can't win the auction.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I sometimes bid on an item I'm interested in as a lazy way of keeping track of it. Doesn't mean I have to keep bidding though

What, actually placing a bid is lazier than pressing the Watch It button??
Click on bid box, type figures, click enter, click commit vs Click watch it button??
Yes, I know....I need to get out more...lol0
