If a business can't make money and deliver a service when it has a virtual monopoly then it ain't much of a business. Both management and staff seem to be totally out of touch with how to run a proper modern service here.Be careful what you wish for becuase you might get it...a nice expensive privatised postal service.0 -

a company who doesnt set their own prices, have to offer competitors a cheaper price but do the expensive part of the job for them
offering a flat rate price service nationally?0 -
Why not farm out local distribution? People who live in the middle of nowhere get a twice weekly service for example. They need better management, some clear thinking, better staff morale (less walkouts) - and maybe Adam Crozier should be doing his job on 100k a year not a million or more. RM are tied by the universal obligation (USO)
they have yet again been refused an application to try zonal pricing
so the regualtor would never go for rural customers getting a 2 day a week service
monday to friday has been mooted many times as this would allow RM to cut staff by quite some margin but our top managers say Saturday deliveries give us an edge over competitors0 -
Nearlynew, I absolutely agree. This board is full of very silly - or very young- people. If the bosses get their way and the postmen are squashed - who is going to replace them ?? All these wee smarta$$es in here ?? Or loads of poor sods refused dole money and sent round by the local job centre.
And then let's wait and see what a pig's ear they make of it . Then the cost of stamps will rise & rise and the service will fall & fall. Just like the railways, the hospitals, and all the rest.
And the bosses will get bigger bonuses and bigger cars and the workers will have to cope with job insecurity, stress & misery. And all the silly b*ggers on here will be happy. Wow. That's intelligent. Or something.0 -
Regardless of the odd inefficiencies and quirky, old-fashioned rules; the fact remains that the post office, when nationalised, was a better run, more reliable and more eficient organisation than it has been since privatisation.
Allowing you to post a letter or parcel to anywhere in the country for the same price represents the essence of a public service.
Along with transport and utilities, it is one of those things which the government might not always do perfectly, but if done well is the best solution for any country both socially and economically."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Fact: Royal Mail sorting offices will not cooperate with Post Offices on just about any level. Privatise the lot of 'em I say.
I would be happy to collect my mail from Tesco or Waitrose so long as a proper spam-in-envelopes opt-out policy is legislated for in the UK.0
