Well done Mrs E. Home made is best.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Be great over xmas, because I like bread super fresh & now its not a problem.0

well done MrsE! I never thought you would become a convert
As far as I understand for white, it is better to use Strong white bread flour. In Tesco it is 69p a kilo bag, sainsbugs 70something as far as I know. If you are making wholemeal, usually there are better results using part wholemeal, part SWB flour.
My mum goes on about me getting indigestion from eating fresh bread but Ive never had a problem!
It's great once you perfect the timer option too, so You can set it in advance.
From experience, machine bread is much easier to slice the next day.
Happy bread day!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

MrsE I am shocked. I had this vision of you as the uber Earth Mother who not only made her own bread but grew the corn and milled it as well.:rotfl:Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

Mrs E- I have a Panny and always use Dove yeast. When I open a pack I put some in a small screw top jar and put it in the fridge, the rest in another jar kept near my flour and stuff. It keeps ok and as s.o.else said lasts for ages, and its easier to measure teaspoons out for the panny recipes than the little sachets.Have fun experimenting!I hate eating shop bought now,and keep some in the freezer for emergencies.
I've used all brands of flour,if using white it tends to be Lidl-68p.I use it half and half with wholemeal,or Allinsons multigrain(I got a few bags of this from B&M for 49p recently. We all like this.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. I'm going to sound really thick. Do you keep it in the fridge to use or to store, what I mean is does it need to be room temp to use but you keep some in the fridge because it lasts better?0 -

I keep mine in the fridge, keeps for ages in there. I also use it straight from the fridge, it's the kind that needs activating first so soon warms up in the warm water.0 -
Well done MrsE! Nothing like your first loaf, is there?
Can I recommend that you try the French bake white loaf next? It's my favourite. I put it on the timer so I can have it warm in the morning with jam and coffee for breakfast.
Heaven.
I've used Doves, Tesco, Asda and Sains yeast - no problems with any of them.0 -
I slice it and then put it in the freezer, take out a couple of slices at a time as you need it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
