So the date on the logbook is the date it arrived / was registered in the UK. Could it be older then?

Wonder if you could give the VIN to a local ford parts department and ask them for its spec?

I've no idea. It's the newest style so built in '08. It was new when it came to UK if what I'm told is true.
  • I smell something bad. Check it isn't stolen. Recently, a lot of cars stolen in the UK have ended up in Cyprus, so check this isn't just one coming back. Cyprus is big business for car criminals these days.

I've took it out for a spin this afternoon. It's not got a badge on the back ie Zetec or Style. However it has 4 x electric windows, cruise control and air con which seems to place it pretty well spec. wise.

I really am in two minds with this.
08 Style doesn't have Cruise Control. So no..........it isn't placed wekll spec wise.

The Style doesn't but this car does. What do you mean?

Surely, the dealership will have checked this before they accepted it in part Ex, if chambta's mate is a mate, he's not going to offer to sell him a ringer.

My advice would be, if you like the car and the price, buy it. You should check with Ford UK that they will honour the remainder of the warranty. If they won't, ask the dealer to offer you a warranty instead, or drop the price a bit so you can buy one for yourself (such as warrantywise or car warranty direct).

I'm assuming you are buying the car to use it yourself. If you were buying just to sell on in the hope of a profit, then it probably isn't worth the hassle.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

    .

Ford UK will not have say in the warranty, Cyprus is in the EU, all member states are controlled by EU Regulations on car manufacturer warranties I believe.

But if you look to earlier posts, I agree with plane_boy
(yes, I know the warranty is pan european, but whats right and what actualy happens are two different things)

Personally, I'd want at least an email, preferably a letter from Ford UK confirming that the warranty will be honoured, rather than having to fight with a dealership if a problem arises.

That said, if a problem arose within the first few weeks, the selling dealer does have responsibilty to fix it anyway.

Still say tho' if you like the car, buy it.

Thanks for the advice. He's my best mate and the company in question are a large, well respected multi-franchise dealer. There's no question of it being stolen!

I doubt I can squeeze the price down lower as he's already told me that they're making an absolute minimum on it. They've had it for 6 weeks after taking it in for a part-ex and it's been on at £8995. Indeed it was sold at that but the buyer failed credit checks for the finance.

In terms of warranty he's had a word with his boss and they can do me a warranty at cost price if I want it.

So why in your opening post do you write:
'It's an 18 month old 1.6 Style 5-door Focus which is just what I'm looking for. It's only done 8,000 miles and is in perfect condition'

Whether the 08 Style is comes from Cyprus, Germany, Timbuktu or the moon, it still doesn't ahve cruise control and is not even an optional extra on that model.
  • £9k for a focus that year is about the right screen price, I would expect to be able to knock £1000 off that though for a no hassle cash & drive away price.

Did you say he was offering it to you for £7k?

What you need to do is check with your insurance and see how much extra they will charge you because its an import model.

That £1000 saving could get eaten up after a few years, Selling maybe an issue later on unless you keep it for a very long time and its only worth a couple of hundred.
People are suspicious of anything different. Especially when large sums of money are involved.
