Cat is pooing all over the garden

Cat problems again. I have just moved in my house and found out that the cat loves to use the garden as his toilet. The cat has pooed all over the garden, when I put orange peels etc, he moves to another area. I have alredy identified five areas when he has done his business. I have set up the sonic, but does not know whether it will work and it is heavy on batteries & every slight branch movement will trigger it on. I have done the usual stuffs but do not know what else I can do? Will try to get some thorny branches and spread them over the border. Anybody has any success of getting rid of the cats from the garden!! Thanks

I've heard of someone putting a bit of rag soaked in bleach in a jam jar with holes punched in the top, (to let the smell out) you need to add bleach weekly, but they don't like the smell. Like the orange peel, you will probably have to put a jar in all those little places.

Try to keep the ground covered, with plants (or weeds) as they like open spaces/soil for toileting.

If it is your own cat this is proably because you have moved and he/she doesn't think its his/her own garden yet, or if not a confident cat think its the only 'safe' place being in a new environment. Usually they pop to a neighbour's rather than on their own patch...if it is a neighbours cat, your own cat will eventually claim the patch and the neighbouring cats will keep off if your cat is about.

  • I use dried chicken manure pellets on my garden. Seems to keep them off for a while.

Don't use it near door ways though.

    Is this your cat?
If so, at least they are making a mess of your garden, not polluting any of your neighbours'. If not, I can sympathise, but sadly have no tried and tested method of dissuading them - a waterpistol works if you catch them at it, but only for a short period.
I have no cats, but my garden is often covered in cat poop!

    It's only a game

  • I have found this to be really good in my garden,,, http://www.buckingham-nurseries.co.uk/acatalog/product_54609.html the first one!

Think i paid about £3 for each plant at my local garden centre.. i bought 2 in May.

It does grow quite a lot,,i have cut mine back/divided it several times this year,,put it in pots, gave it away and also planted it in other troubleseome areas of my garden it seems to keep my own and other cats off my larger flower beds :-)

    Definietly worth a try !

Thanks, no it is not my cat, I am not a cat's lover. If it was my cat I would not be complaining as it would not be fair that my own cat is fouling other people's garden. I will try the chicken pellets, at least it will fertilize the ground as well.

My cats love bleach so I dont think that would work very well... Maybe I have weird cats.

All the cats I have ever owned have HATED the smell of Olbas Oil....you know, the little bottles of stuff you get from the chemist to inhale when you've got a cold. When you next make a pot of tea, save the used teabags and drip some Olbas Oil onto them. Put them wherever the cat is pooing. It should work as it's a very strong smell. Good luck!

  • Hi

Following from Olbas oil post - we had similar problem with our neighbour's cat........we used a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle filled with water. Shake before use and spray on the relevant areas of the garden....cat poo-begone!!

Thanks BubblyR, I have got a stock of eucalyptus oil & I will try it in a spray bottle. I have poured it neat on tea bags before.

Cats do that - they are filthy animals!
