    more advice needed sorry :(

    i have quite a lot of rhubarb in my garden and my questions are:

    how do i know if its safe to eat?

    if it is can i cook and then freeze it and if so how?

    probably really dumb questions (hangs head in shame) but i dont want to poison everyone

    I grew rhubarb and always froze enough for the whole winter. Pick by pulling and twisting, cut off leaves and base and get rid. Chop stalks into small (1" ish) sections. Wash, dry on t towels, bag and freeze. Always, always worked well

    Just be absolutely certain that it is rhubarb and not a plant that looks similar. Ask a neighbour if not sure

    It's the leaves that are poisonous, not the stems... so as long as you don't eat them, you'll be fine.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

    Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

    My dad has given me loads of rhubarb from his garden. Can I just chop it up and freeze it or do I have to do anything to it first?

    I chop mine, freeze it on trays, then store in freezer bags.

    We have an older thread on this subject, so I'll add your question to that.

    My lovely neighbour has just been round and given me 2 lettuces and 4 large stalks of rhubarb.
    We are only a family a 3 so a small crumble will be made later.
    How long does rhubarb keep and can I freeze it? If so do I need to cook it before hand?

    The rhubarb will keep for a few days in the fridge. I tend to chop it into pieces and freeze spread out on a tray before putting in bags - I don't cook it before freezing.

    Freezing rhubarb works well. Like Yategirl, I open freeze it before putting it into the bag. I'll add your post to the curren freezing rhubarb thread to keep the replies together.
