Received oil delivery but didn't order it!

Hi there,
I'm hoping you can help me please
.
A company I've ordered heating oil from in the past recently delivered an order of oil to my home when no-one was in, so we couldn't query the delivery at the time it was made.
I initially thought my hubby had ordered it, he thought I had, and when we realised a couple of days later that neither of us had ordered it I phoned the company to ask why.
The girl on the phone checked her records and said to start off with that it looked as if the order had come from a 3rd party company but when I told her that I'd never heard of the company she quoted and def hadn't ordered any oil from anyone, she said it might just have been a mistake.
What do I do about the bill I've now received for the delivery? I would have needed to order some in about 6 weeks' time, but I would have done what I normally do and phoned round all the oil companies to find out who was cheapest and I would have ordered it to suit my payday
.
Is this a credit crunch tactic to drum up business lol? Not sure where I stand - I wrote to the company and basically said all the above again to them and they left a message asking me to phone them back to discuss this, and I could do with some info before I do. I've also just received a reminder for not paying for the delivery now so I need to get this sorted out.
Sorry for rambling, but any help/info will be very gratefully received...!!

I think I would phone around as you normally would and get some quotes then contact the company and tell them that either they match the cheapest quote and defer payment until it suits your payday or they remove the oil that you did not order, they can pump it back out. You could also phone the CAB to check on your rights. Good luck.0

Tell them to come back and remove the oil they delivered or ask for a small discount say £20-£30 assuming around 1,000 litres were delivered? I presume you don't really want to fall out with them unecessarily.0

I would tell them that as far as you are concerned, you didn't order it, and unless they can prove that you did, the onus is on them to come and collect it at a time convenient to you. I can't see how they can make you pay for an order you didn't make (especially when they have admitted it might be a mistake!), and I don't think it should be your responsibility to sort the mess out for them.0

I agree with hardpressed's post, find the cheapest price and ask them to match it.
If they don't agree tell them to come and collect it but make sure they take the same amount out that they put in!
If they get stroppy tell them to are going to charge them a storage fee for every day it is in your tank.0 -

You can keep it and they are commiting an offence by demanding payment. sucks being them. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to offer to pay YOUR agreed price,at a date that suits you.0
