Kitchen worktops - Bushboard

Hi
I'm having my new kitchen fitted in the next couple of weeks and still haven't picked a worktop.
I've fallen in love with the colours of the bushboard omega vanilla quartz worktop (2nd from top left at this gallery http://www.bushboard.co.uk/gallery.asp?range=omega&v=) but when the sample came it's hi gloss.
I don't really want hi gloss but I just love the colours and warmth of this worktop. Their other light coloured worktops don't even come close to how much I love this one.
My issues are that this worktop is about twice the price of the bog standard howdens laminate I was going to have and I don't know whether it's worth the money as it is just a laminate but we can't afford granite or anything more hardwearing and I don't want wood.
Cheapest price I've managed to get for 2 x 4.1m worktops and 2 x 3m upstands is £380 and my builder will pick it up.
So I was wondering if those in the know out there think this worktop is worth my money. I'm also going to be having a glass splashback for behind the hob (no tiles) and my kitchen is Howden's Tewkesbury Oak with solid oak flooring.
Thanks, any advice appreciated!

Hi, I am looking at worktops at the mo and I know that all the advice I have been given is to avoid gloss laminates as they show every scratch.....on the basis of this I looked round various showrooms worktops closely and you can see how terrible they are. My kitchen is very light and I think with the sun shining on gloss will look terrible, so I am looking for other solutions.

Sorry, not the reply you wanted.

Thanks Nixinixi, you're confirming my fears about it, that's why I didn't want hi gloss, it's such a shame that I can't seem to find these exact same colours anywhere else. I got 4 other beige type colours from bushboard and they all looked a bit dull/cold.

Oh, and the other issue I have is that I want upstands to match, this is why I had to start looking elsewhere as Howden's didn't do upstands to match the worktops I was interested in.
If anyone can recommend anywhere else to look I'd appreciate your advice

    Hi

Have a look at Duropal, they are generally regarded as the best laminate worktops. They do upstands in all of their colours. They also do a 24hr sample request service.

    Good luck.

I have the Riven Noir in that range, bottom left hand corner picture, they have other colours. It is textured and high gloss together, send for a sample and you'll see what I mean. If you click on the bit for samples it does say underneath each sample if its high gloss or riven. I love my worktop :)

I specifically went for it as I too wanted upstand with glass splashback behind the hob. My fitter ordered it through this website http://www.idsurfaces.co.uk/c-1811-international-decorative-surfaces-omega.aspx. Picture in this post...

Noticed on Argos a glass splashback which according to the reviews is more grey than the blue the picture depicts and a very reasonable price and if its not right you can always return.

That is a very good price. If you go for those tops don't waste your time shopping around as I doubt you'll get cheaper than that.
I sell worktops and upstands etc at my work and one of those worktops is £150/£160 including VAT. The upstands are a further £60/£70 each including VAT.

Thanks CK, I ordered some samples from them this morning so hopefully they should be here soon.

I go away for a fortnight next Wednesday leaving hubby in charge of the kitchen etc and really want to make this last decision before I go.
  • Try the Bushboard Encore Calico. Seen it in a display at jewsons. A lovely kitchen and worktop. Its a combination I fancy getting.
