Contract mobiles and the cost inside the contract...

Hi there, complete newbie to this forum.

OK, I am after some advice that actually may have a thread somewhere in here, but I feel I will be searching and searching, so I thought I would create this thread.

I have a BlackBerry on contract from Vodafone. I haven't insured it and I gave up my bank account fees that cover my mobile. Frankly, when I was made unemployed I could not afford the bank account fees (which were £14 per month with Barclays - the cost of the mobile contract is quite good and I don't mind paying for it). So, getting to the point, my BlackBerry is developing minor niggles and faults. Is my mobile covered in the cost of my contract and is it protected under the sale of goods act? I have never broken the mobile, its just faults that are starting to happen with it.

Vodafone have stated that ANYTHING goes wrong with the phone and they will not be liable... where do I stand?

Any guidance on this subject would be great.

Thanks and I am enjoying the forum.

John Mc.

Hello JohnMc, and welcome to the forums. :)

How old is the BlackBerry? If it's less than a year old it's probably still under warranty.

You mention that the niggles and faults are minor. Could it just be that the phone is a little worn from use?

    .

Did you get the phone from vodafone direct or was it through somewhere like carphonewarehouse etc? because thats the only reason i can think of them telling you that

if you got it from vodafone your blackberry will be covered under the sales of goods act with them and has a 24 month warranty.

    Hi JohnMc,

Have you spoken to someone from our company regarding the problems with your handset?

As **Rab** has said, all handsets are covered by a 24 month warranty. This means that if your phone develops any faults within this time, we will repair or exchange the handset for you.

I trust that we can sort these issues out for you.

Do Vodafone extend the length of warranty on handsets they sell, as all Blackberry handsets come as standard with a 12 month warranty.
  • They have a 24 month warranty according to our Blackberry rep
  • According to the blackberry website http://uk.blackberry.com/legal/handheld_warranty.jsp its one year from date of purchase.

    Hi

How do I give notice to end my contract at the 12 month point please?

    Thanks
I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!
  • Write to the Banbury address giving 30 day's notice (or a little more if between 30 and 60 days, assuming it's a 12 month contract! Thanks for reminding me - I need to give notice on one of mine. Soon be down to just one contract with them and the way they are going it's no bad thing!
