Come, on he's 14.
The Tesco £299 laptop which has been very popular, had 256mg ram & 40 gig hard drive. I wouldn't turn my nose up at these specs alone as Ram is easily upgradeable & 250 gig external hard drives are now available at PC world etc for around £75.
Personally, I've bought 3 very good second hand laptops on ebay, 1 for me which lasted for nearly 5 years & I hammered it & 2 for family members & p&P was around £20. If your sensible & buy off a trader, rather than a private seller with little or no feedback, you can bag yourself a bargain on Ebay.0 -

It depends on how up to date a notebook you're looking for to be honest. I've looked on eBay and, the one's that are worth dishing out your cash for (bargain wise) are seriously out dated. In most cases you're looking at paying anywhere in the region of £250...
Why buy a notebook, like the lad posted above, which is deficient in ram and hdd space for over 400 quid, and is then going to cost you another 100 quid to upgrade it to a reasonable spec', when you can buy one outright that meets the basic requirements for around 400, without having to goto the trouble of upgrading, and therefore potentially invalidating your warranty in the process?
Sorry, I didn't realise the kid was that age, but it's a false ecconomy.
I'm currently trying to purchase one from Dabs that is loaded with features and is only a shade over £400. It's a shame Dabs are a useless retailer however.
